| 490.1 | alternative to copying from Holland??? | SLUGER::DAVIDSON | Lenny Davidson N.E. South District MCS | Thu Feb 06 1997 16:18 | 15 |
| | Well I believe the DataR product was the same one bragged about by
    presenters of the "MCS on the Move" roadshow. I always try these beta
    programs, and promote their useage, since many of the folks that create,
    and update them work many hours for no monetary reward, but just to
    help make things easier. However, I cannot feasilbly map a network
    drive to \\utovanbrakel1\datarkit, and copy the files. I'm still
    trying! I thought I would do a spool copy/batch job to VMS copy the one
    install file to a local VMS node, but "network partner exited" is the
    only response I've seen from HLFS00::DATAR:DATAR.ZIP. Doea anyone on
    this side of the Atlantic have it available? If not I'll have to hang
    out in the office for a couple hours to get the install files.

    Not bitchin', just beggin'

|  |     Sorry,

    The VMS pointer to the file DATAR.ZIP was wrong in the document.
    The correct one is: HLFS00::LAPTOP1:[DataR]

    The IP address of the UTOVANBRAKEL1 is 16.197.240.2

    Hope this works!

| | DataR is a tool under development to be used in the WOW environment.

    DataR is a FAST retrieval tools to on the following information:

    * Parts
    * Options
    * SRS  (Service Reference Sheets)

    The Parts query can be done on Part number, Description or Vendor Part
    number. The query will return the following information

    - Stocking levels
    - Vendor information
    - Part pricing in local currency
    - Equivalent parts
    - Alternative parts
    - Options in which the part occurs

    The option query is done on the option description and will return the
    following information.

    - Option 2-5-2 and description
    - Parts which occurs in this option, with stocking levels.

    The SRS query must be done using keywords, This query will return a
    list of SRS titels which forfill the query. You can either select more
    keywords to detailise the query or just pick a SRS of the returned list.

    Links between Parts, Options and SRS queries are provided. e,g, if
    selected an option using the options query you can directly call the
    related SRS.

    The information will be held in a local (off-line) database on the
    engineers Notebook. Updates will be done over the WOW infrastructure.
    E.g. Stocking information will be updated daily.

    The reason for keeping all the information in a local database is the
    speed of retrieval at the customer site (you don't have to make a
    connection to a server).

    Currently available is the DataR client beta version with a database loaded
    from the Dutch FLS logistic system. DataR will be field tested in
    April, somewhere in Europe.

    Countries considering to implement DataR are

    UK
    Holland
    Germany
    Belgium
    Zwitserland
    Sweden
    Finland
    France
    Italy
    Canada
    Hong Kong
    Japan
    etc.

| 490.6 | I use it every day ! | HLFS00::EMPEL_W | Willem van Empel MCSD Gouda | Thu Mar 06 1997 01:15 | 11 |
|  |     Just as a Field Engineer.
    I am a DataR user, and I love it.
    A customer tells me about his Prioris. It's a FR-880WW-AC.
    Type it in DataR, and you get, Prioris HX590 32Mb 1 ch FW SCSI and
    the partlisting.
    Very handy with callscreening and on site.

    Cheers,

    Willem
