| | Re "CONCISE": What size/how many volumes W9NCD has?

    Whenever I'm in trouble I use a local edition "Academy" dictionary,
    2+1 volumes both ways, 1500 to 1800 A4 size pages, 6 pt.tipefaces each.
    Vol 1-2: "street" words expressions, Vol 3: technical supplement.

| | Concise probably means less than 5 volumes :-)

    NSOED = New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary

    where Shorter means two enormous volumes, on paper that's bigger
    than A4 and is nearly rice paper thickness, with a small point size
    print, and the cost is around $90.

| 1140.4 | isn't the "C" for Collegiate? | DYPSS1::DYSERT | Barry - Custom Software Development | Wed May 31 1995 05:50 | 3 |
|  |     I think W9NCD is actually Webster's 9th New Collegiate Dictionary.

|  |     Re .3:
    I don't know how thin rice paper is... But the Volumes 1-2 of the
    "Academy" dictionary are 3 - 3 1/2" while the technical supplement
    "only" 2" thick.
    2 x (2 +1) = total of 6 volumes and not 5! :-)
    The price is almost the same, some 8k HUF (70 USD).

    Re .2:
    You answered my unwritten question explaining the abbreviation "OED".
    Thanks
