I have just learned why my SPRs used to be virtually ignored
(except for those that were really ignored, those that were
permanently paged out, and one that was answered properly).
I thought that SPR stood for Software Problem Report. Now,
where in the world could I have gotten that idea?

I have just learned that SPR stands for Software Performance
Report. We aren't supposed to submit them when software
doesn't perform; we're supposed to report when it DOES perform.
    Silly me.

| According to my acronym database, it's South Pacific Region (of course,
I just ADDED it to my acronym database this morning -- see
GBMMKT::ACRONYM Note #25) and it will appear in _digital today_ Volume
    II, Issue 14.

But a more important question -- at least, to me -- is there any
corporate Style Sheet? Specifically, how is "on line" spelled?
According to Random House and Webster's Collegiate, it's "on-line"
while the AP Stylebook, 'Computer Terms' chapter says "online". MY
style guide (based on the SOFTbase style guide says "online" as an
adjective and "on line" as an adverb.

CD-ROM is hyphenated according to AP but I've seen it as CDROM and CD
    ROM.

Is there any place to check proper Digital usage?

    Thanks

    Ben Day

| A few product announcements ago, KO went on a tangent, and told the following anecdote, in a very sarcastic tone of voice (paraphrase, not a quote): A while ago we had a great deal of trouble figuring out whether to spell "disk" d_i_s_k or d_i_s_c. But then our friends at IBM, after a great deal of discussion among some very important people, issued a document telling us the correct spelling. We will always be grateful to them. Clay | |||||
