    "Writing is my forte."  The proper way to pronounce forte is FORT.
    
    There is a direction in music which means "loud" and is spelled
    forte also.  This word is pronounced FOR-TAY.
    
    When people say "Writing is my FOR-TAY," they think they're being
    hip and smart but we're all laughing being their backs.

	Both my office dictionaries say that FORT is preferred but that FORTAY is acceptable. Sniggering, snickering, superciliousness, and snobbishness not mentioned in this context.

	If anyone feels in a "laughing behind the back" mood, ask someone to pronounce `fiat' (meaning "decree, order"). Everyone gets that wrong according to dictionaries that list "fi-ot" as preferred over "fee-ot".
