From Richard Lederer's "On Language" column in the Concord (NH) Monitor.
This verse by H.C. Dodge appeared in the July 1903 Women's Home Companion:
The farmer leads no EZ life.
The CD sows will rot;
And when at EV rests from strife,
His bones will AK lot.
In DD has to struggle hard
To EK living out;
If IC frosts do not retard
His crops, there'll BA drought.
The hired LP has to pay
Are awful AZ, too;
They CK rest when he's away,
Nor NE work will do.
Both NZ cannot make to meet,
And then for AD takes
Some boarders, who so RT eat,
And E no money makes.
Of little UC finds his life;
Sick in old AG lies;
The debts he OZ leaves his wife,
And then in PC dies.

Ogden Nash or Richard Armour or someone like that produced this:
O I C
I'm sorry you've been 6o long
But don't be disconsol8.
Just bear your ills with 42d
And they won't seem so gr8.
A friend taught me the following dialogue. I think it may be a
fragment of a longer section:
"AB! C D FOG!" "L! M N O FOG!" "O S A R. C M?"

From my father: F U N E X? S, I F X. F U N E M? S, I F M. OK! I F MNX! There was a whole book of these things published (believe it or not!), entitled "C D B" (picture of a bee hovering around a flower). I think it may have been a children's book, but I'm not sure. -- Sam | |||||
| 219.4 | C D B and C D C | EAGLEA::LEONARD | Wed Jul 16 1986 10:36 | 15 | |
I own copies of both "C D B!" and its sequel, "C D C?"
The first book begins with:
C D B! D B S A B-Z B. O S, N-D!
Much later, we find:
M N X R L-T 4 U!
One of my favorites is:
I M N D L-F-8-R!
The books are illustrated, which makes the decoding considerably
easier.

When freedom from frustration,
Results from calm persuasion,
And quiet emancipation,
Prevents recapitulation,
Then a waxing of elation,
And a tacit determination,
Nurture the creation,
Of authentic celebration!

Alan Lerner also had a flair with bizarre rhymes, though not to
the extremes that Lehrer reached. My favorite is from CAMELOT's
"Take Me to the Fair":
"And when I choose whom I prefer go,
I'll take the strongest knight I know.
And young du Lac seems strongest, ergo,
He should take me to the cattle show."
