Registration for 1997 Digital Tennis League.
A little about the league:
The Tennis League works like a professional sports league, where
there is a regular season and the playoffs. The regular season is
divided into two halves, or sessions, each lasting approximately
five weeks.
If the interest is there, the League will support three divisions:
men's singles, women's singles and doubles. The doubles division
includes female teams, male teams and mixed teams all in one.
The Tennis League is open to players of all ability levels.
The Tennis League is centered in the Marlboro/495 area.
At the beginning of each session, you will be grouped with four
other players or teams (if playing doubles) who are of similar
playing abilities. During each session, you play these four
other players/teams at times and locations agreeable to you and
your opponents. At the end of each session, you send your match
results in to your company contact, who will tally your points
and forward to the person handling the ladders and a re-ranking
is done based on those results.
The end-of-season playoffs are a single elimination tournament
culminating at the annual outing where tournament finals are
played. The 1997 location for the tournament will be determined
at a future date.
Where you play your matches is totally up to you and your opponent. When
you play is also decided by you, but your matches must be played within the
time-frames outlined below.
This year's schedule is as follows:
Registration: Now through April 25th
Session 1: May 12th through June 15th (four matches)
Session 2: June 23th through July 28th (four matches)
Tournament: August 11th through September 23th
Annual Outing: September 26th (Tournament finals)
Attached are:
-- The Tennis League Rules and Regulations,
-- NTRP self rating guidelines (for new members only),
-- Registration form, and
-- Participation application/release form for the 1997 season.
If you were a member of the DIGITAL league last year, you will retain
your ranking as of the end of session 2. The only changes are
that the tournament finalists are moved to the top of their
respective draws and of course the addition of new members and
the dropping out of others.
If you are registering as a new member, please read the self
rating guidelines and rules and regulations carefully. We want to
place you within the ranking with other members as close to your
playing level as possible. If possible, we'd like you to play a
match or two with current members to gauge where to rank you
according to the current level of players. Names of players in
your area will be provided if you're able to do this.
The registration form, participation application/release form and your
check must be returned to your company contact by April 25th.
Hope to see you on the courts!
DIGITAL TENNIS LEAGUE RULES AND REGULATIONS
-------------------------------------------
1. MATCH RULES - Matches will be best 2 out of 3 sets. Each set
must be won by at least 2 games, except at 6-6, where a 12 point
tie-breaker will be played.
2. MATCH SCHEDULING - While it is suggested that you stagger your
matches during each session, it is recommended that you schedule
early. Remember, the tennis league tells you WHO you are to play,
the WHERE and WHEN are totally up to you.
3. LEAGUE ELIGIBILITY - Any Digital employee or former Digital employee
is eligible to play in the Digital Tennis League.
4. TOURNAMENT ELIGIBILITY - Any player/team failing to play a
total of at least 4 matches during the whole of the regular
season (a total of both sessions) will NOT be eligible to play in
the tournament.
5. TRAVEL - The Tennis League is mainly centered in the
Marlboro/495 area, yet it is open to employees in all locations.
However, because of travel distance involved, people in remote
locations should make every effort to schedule their matches in or
around the Marlboro/495 area, unless other arrangements are
agreed upon by those involved.
6. FEES - Fees are used to pay for trophies and the annual outing held
at the end of the season.
7. DISPUTES - All match disputes should be settled by the participants
involved. The Tennis League WILL NOT arbitrate any disputes. If
a disputed match cannot be settled, it will be considered as not
played for scoring purposes.
8. DEFAULTED MATCHES - The winner of a defaulted match will be
credited as winning the match by the score of 6-2, 6-2.
8A. UNFINISHED MATCHES - Matches that are not able to be completed
due to circumstances not specific to either player (IE: sudden
inclement weather, etc), will go to the individual that is
currently ahead at the time of termination of play.
Matches that are unfinished due to circumstances relating to a
specific player (IE: injury, broken racket), will be defaulted
to the other player and not rescheduled.
9. RANKING - There will be an initial ranking of all participants in
each division by the Tennis League committee. These rankings will
be distributed to all participants prior to the start of session 1.
Changes in the ranking will then be computed on the basis of match
scores.
10. SCORING - Participants are responsible for keeping track of and
reporting their match scores to the Tennis League at the end
of each session on the authorized score sheets. The score sheets
and session deadlines are distributed with each session ranking.
Scores not received or matches not played by the session deadlines
will not be counted in the adjustment of your ranking and may
affect your tournament eligibility. The scoring algorithm is as follows:
Each Set: 1 point to the winner(s) of the set
Each Match: 1 point to the winner(s) of the match
11. TENNIS BALLS - We ask that each player/team bring new tennis balls
to their match. The winner of the match keeps the unused can.
