1070.0. "Res. 3379 - Demand Repeal" by PACKER::JULIUS () Tue May 14 1991 17:33
    from The Jewish Advocate, 5/10/91

    Miami Archdiocese First to Demand
    Repeal of Infamous U.N. Resolution

By Linda Brockman, Miami Jewish Tribune

Miami (JTA) - The Catholic Archdiocese of Miami has issued a call for
the repeal of the United Nations 1975 resolution which declares Zionism
to be "a form of racial discrimination." In doing so, the Miami
Archdiocese, according to the Catholic Bishops Conference, became the
first local archdiocese in the nation to take such a position.

Local Jewish leaders immediately praised the action, as did a broad
range of local Christian and ecumenical groups.

The statement was announced Tuesday at a news conference called by the
Catholic Commission for Social Advocacy, a division of the Archdiocese
of Miami. Leona Cooper, chairperson of the commission, said that her
organization "joins persons of good will everywhere to denounce U.N.
    Resolution 3379 as unjust."

Cooper's statement appealed to the Catholic community to "stand with
our Jewish brothers and sisters to say 'never again.' We call on the
U.N. General Assembly to right a wrong done, sending a signal to all
that the world will not forget: that no Holocaust, of any people,
anywhere, will ever be allowed again."

to the 600s or so.

The "Zionism is Racism" resolution was passed by the General Assembly. It's
the Security Council whose numbering has only reached the 600s.

| | Shalom,

This is my first time back in BAGELS since the war - response time had
gotten so difficult, it was near impossible to keep up. The response
time here is GREATLY improved and for that I'm grateful. This is one
of the best conferences in the company!

That aside...does anyone have the text of the "Zionism is Racism"
    resolution?

I'd like any letter I write to be an informed one. Also, is there a
particular person/persons to whom the letter can be addressed to be
    most effective?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
I'm quite sure Barney Frank would have both the text and a list
of the appropriate people to contact. Plus, whenever I have
written to him, he has responded right away. As always, thank
    you for your concern.

    Representative Barney Frank

    Regards,
