          Crusades."
Arab League Sec. General Azzam Pasha

o The Arab Nations should sacrifice up to 10 million of their 50
million people, if necessary to wipe out Israel...Israel to the
Arab world is like a cancer to the human body, and the only way of
remedy is to uproot it, just like a cancer."
                Saud ibn Abdul Aziz

o "The existence of Israel is an error which must be rectified.
This is our opportunity to wipe out the ignominy which has been
with us since 1948. Our goal is clear - to wipe Israel off the
          map."
President Abdel Rahman Aref of Iraq
                May 31, 1967
                                                                Page 2
o "The goal of our struggle is the end of Israel, and there can be
          no compromise."
                PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat
_The Washington Post_, March 29, 1970
o "Israel's existence in the heart of the Arab people is an

the work which good people are trying to do."
                King Faisal of Saudi Arabia
                Speech in Uganda

o "Our forces continue to pressure the enemy and will continue to
strike at him until we recover the occupied territory, and we will
continue until all the land is liberated."
                President Hafez el-Assad of Syria
                _Radio Damascus_, October 16, 1973

                President Muammar Qaddafi of Libya
                _al-Usbu al-Arabi_ (Beirut)

          part of southern Syria."
                President Hafez el-Assad of Syria
                _Radio Damascus_, March 8, 1974
                                                                Page 3
o "If the rights of the Palestinian people are merely the
establishment of a Palestinian State in the West Bank and the Gaza
Strip, then what did we fight for as an Arab nation in 1967? ...
We agreed on the presence of a delegation representing the PLO at
the Geneva conference ... to discuss the Palestinian People's
rights, which go beyond the June 5 (1967) lines."
                Zeid al-Rifai
                Prime Minister of Jordan
                _Radio Amman_, May 12, 1974

o "...there is a minimal Palestinian national position. This
minimum is the rejection of any recognition of the Zionist entity
... our rejection of settlement based on the continued existence
          of this foreign entity."
                PFLP leader Dr. George Habash
                _Al-Bayrad_, (Beirut), February 4, 1975
o "The Zionist existence in our homeland is one of those errors
which human history is witness to. This error cannot continue and
          is bound towards demise."
                Editorial in _Al-Ba'ath_ (Damascus)
The official organ of the ruling Ba'ath
                Party, May 2, 1975
o "This racist entity in the Middle East must be destroyed and it
          will be destroyed one day."
                Mansour Rashid Kikhia
                Libyan Ambassador to the UN
                Statement to Security Council
                March 24, 1976
o "The Arabs will not only demand the West Bank and the Gaza Strip,
but all of the land conquered since 1948 ... The slogan that the
rights of the Palestinians be restored and Palestine liberated can
have but one meaning - the elimination of Israel."
                _Radio Damascus_, December 22, 1976
                                                                Page 4
o We cannot think of recognition [of Israel] because this would mean
conceding a part of our lands. Our intermediate goal is the
creation of an independent Palestinian state on all parts of our
land that will be liberated. There have been similar developments
in the world. In Vietnam, for example, the Vietnamese decided on
the creation of North Vietnam, and after ten years they liberated
          South Vietnam."
Farouk Kaddoumi, Head of PLO's Political Department
Quoted on _Voice of Palestine_, July 2, 1977
o The right of self-determination in the Arab nationalist sense
means the total liberation and return to the national historical
rights of the Palestinian nation in its land ... The right of the
Palestinian nation to self-determination is expressed in the
exposure and destruction of the Zionist idea, and of Israel, which
is the result of that idea."
Sami el-Atri, Secretary of the Palestinian Central Committee
Interview with Kuwaiti paper _Al-Kabas_, March 7, 1978
o "Perhaps the worst result of the shameful visit [to Jerusalem] is
that the "faithful" president [Sadat] was mixed up in interpreting
the word of God...he praised the Jews in a manner that is
contradictory to the Koran ... the late King Faisal [of Saudi
Arabia] said he has reviewed the Koran from the beginning to the
end and could not find one single sentence praising the Jews ...
Does Sadat know more about the interpretation of the Koran than
          King Faisal?
"I ask all sincere people in the Arab nation: Who is the man
whose acrobatic policies and initiative have caused divisions in
the Arab ranks? Let us tell Sadat to go to hell in order to
restore Arab solidarity, stronger than ever."
                Syrian Defense Minister Mustafa Tlas
                _Tishrin_, February 6, 1978
o "Sadat should understand that he will be struck down. It is his
destiny. Anyone who betrays the Palestinian people will be struck
          down."
                PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat
_Associated Press_, Beirut, March 12, 1979
o "Begin is in Cairo today. Do something, Egypt. Poison the Nile
water that Begin will drink. Keep the grave of Abdel Nasser from
Begin's sight, lest he die a second time upon seeing Begin in
Cairo. Say something, Egypt. It is not important what, just do
not show Begin that you are dead, that you were felled by the
claws of Zionism as Palestine fell before you."
                                                                Page 5
                _Radio Damascus_, April 2, 1979
o "I am confident that we shall eventually overrun Begin's own
offices both in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv. Even if only one
guerrilla cub survives the prolonged struggle, I am confident that
he will raise the flag of Palestine over Jerusalem ... Jerusalem
is destined to be the eternal capital of our sovereign,
independent Palestinian state under the PLO leaderhsip."
                PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat
_Associated Press_, Beirut, May 8, 1979
o "The PLO will not become a political organization but will
continue to be above all an organization for armed struggle. The
PLO will not cease its attacks upon Israel in favor of a
          diplomatic initiative."
                _Voice of Palestine_
                Lebanon, October 8, 1979
o "The partitioning of Palestine in 1947 and the establishment of
Israel are fundamentally null and void ... the liberation of
Palestine will destroy the Zionist and the imperialist presence
          ... "
The Palestine National Covenant (of the PLO)
                Articles 19 and 22
o "Peace for us means the destruction of Israel. We are preparing
for an all-out war, a war which will last for generations. Since
January, 1965, when Fatah was born, we have become the most
dangerous enemy that Israel has .. We shall not rest until the
day when we return to our home, and until we destroy Israel ..."
                PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat
_El Mundo_, Caracas, Vanezuela, February 11, 1980
o "Jerusalem's occupation is a deep wound bleeding in our hearts and
souls .. We are determined to recover it and to continue to
pursue its recovery together with our beloved land Palestine.
This, however, cannot be achieved by talking about it or by
talking about peace, but through patience, sound planning and by
efforts and jihad, and above all through unity of the word and the
          closing of ranks."
                King Khalid of Saudi Arabia
_Riyadh Domestic Service_, March 8, 1980
                                                                Page 6
o "Machine guns and bullets are the only way to reach an
understanding with the Zionist enemy. Statements, protests, and
UN resolutions are of no avail. Only the massive use of bullets
... our people cannot cease its struggle, which is carried out
with bullets, machine guns, and hand grenades."
                Khalil al-Wazir (Abu Jihad)
Head of the Military Wing, Fatah
_Voice of Palestine_, Beirut, May 3, 1980
o "The Fatah movement ... aim is the liberation of Palestine in its
entirety, and the extermination of the Zionist entity
          economically, politically, militarily, culturally, and
          idealistically."
                The Fourth Fatah Organization Convention
                Damascus, Syria, May 31, 1980
o "There has been no change whatsoever in the fundamental strategy
of the PLO, which is based on the total liberation of Palestine
and the destruction of the occupying country ... On no accounts
will the Palestinians accept part of Palestine and call it the
Palestinian state, while forfeiting remaining areas which are
          called the State of Israel."
Rafiq Najshah, PLO Representative in Saudi Arabia
_Saudi Arabian News Agency_, June 9, 1980
o "Do not believe that it is possible to regain Palestine and to
return to Jerusalem by means of a political settlement. You will
not return to Palestine or raise the flag of the revolution over
Jerusalem other than by means of the rifle. We will not achieve
political victory so long as we do not achieve military victory.
You must strengthen the iron fist around the rifle which will lead
          to victory."
                PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat
_Voice of Palestine_, Beirut, June 16, 1980
o "The removal of the Israeli occupation from our occupied land,
Palestine, is the first and basic condition for just peace ...
The Islamic nation and just believers in and religion or creed
will not accept the situation of the land of the Prophet's flight
to heaven and the cradle of prophets and divine messages being
          captive of Zionist occupation."
                King Hussein of Jordan
                Speech at the Islamic Conference
_Amman Domestic Service_, July 11, 1980
                                                                Page 7
o "The victory march will continue until the Palestinian flag flies
in Jerusalem and in all of Palestine -- from the Jordan River to
the Mediterranean Sean and from Rosh Hanikra to Eilat."
                PLO CHariman Yasir Arafat
Speech at the University of Beirut
                _Saut Falestin_, December 7, 1980
o "We shall not rest until our usurped land is liberated and until
the Palestinian people return with dignity and pride to their
independent state, with Jerusalem its capital."
                King Fahd of Saudi Arabia
_Saudi Press Agency_, Riyadh, January 21, 1981
o "We are determined to wage a jihad by all the means at our
disposal in order to liberate our occupied territories ... We
assert our determination to confron aggression and pressures by
all means and to make preparations for a jihad for the liberation
of the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories."
Mecca Declaration of the Islamic Conference
                Broadcast by _Riyadh Domestic Service_
Mecca, Saudi Arabia, January 19, 1981
o "Jordan feels the heart beat of the Palestinian people on the
occupied land. Jordan perceives Nablus and Hebron in the same
manner as it perceives the Galilee and Nazareth."
                Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan
                _Amman Radio_, March 31, 1981
o "I shall make it perfectly clear to you. We shall never recognize
Israel, never accept the usurper, the colonialist, the imperialist
... We shall never allow Israel to live in peace. We shall never
allow it total security. Every Israeli will feel that behind
every wall there is might be a guerrilla who is aiming at me ..."
Farouk Kaddoumi, Head of PLO political department
Interview in _Stern_, West Germany, July 31, 1981
o "The liquidation of Israel is one of the means we adopt to achieve
unity and freedom in the Arab world. We know that liberation is a
long-term goal, but I am about to determine that, at the end of
this year, a democratic Palestinian state will be established."
Hani al-Hassan, Political Adviser to Yasir Arafat
                Speech at American University, Beirut
                _An-Nahar_, Beirut, January 9, 1982
                                                                Page 8
o "The Reagan plan attempts to contain and to extinguish the
Palestinian revolution ... unfortunately, it does not deal with
the refugees of 1948, and limits the right of return to the West
Bank and Gaza, and not to their fundamental place in Jaffa, Haifa,
and Safed. Our rights extend beyond the West Bank and Gaza ..."
Farouk Kaddoumi, Head of PLO's political section
                _Al-Hadaf_, January 17, 1983
o "The war of attrition against the Zionist enemy will never cease
... It is in my interest to have a war in the region, because I
believe that the only remedy for the ills of the Arab nation is a
true war against the Zionist enemy."
                PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat
                _Al-Destour_, Lebanon
                December 26, 1983

| | I can think of at least a million things I would rather do than
spend my time and efforts assembling a similar list going in the
other direction, so instead I will type in the following from this
    morning's New York Times:

An interfaith group of about 500 American Jews, Muslims, and Christians
today announced the formation of a committee to press for Middle
East peace...The diversity of the group was illustrated by the
appearance at a news conference of Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, professor
of religion at Dartmouth College, and Al-Hajj Dawud Assad, president
of the Council of Mosques, U.S.A....Mr. Assad survived the massacre
at Deir Yassin, the Arab village near Jerusalem attacked in 1948
by fighters from Menachem Begin's Irgun Zvai Leumi underground unit
and the Stern Gang. He said that despite losing 38 members of his
family at Deir Yassin, "My religious duty, my Muslim faith and the
Qu'ran, tell me that we should dialogue with the People of the Book."
