|  | We're in the process now of selling our house and attempting to 
buy a condo. It's been 13 years since we had real-estate transaction
 experience.
We're puzzled and dismayed by the current practice of automatically 
writing "48-hr. first-right-of-refusal" terms, vs. a straightforward 
"purchase is contingent on the sale of our house" agreement.
Doesn't anyone do business the "old-fashioned" way anymore?
Is this a New England thing, or widespread, standard practice?
