| | AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

On 2FM sport this morning, they report that some punter has had 4K on
and he is now 11/4. Was that you Mick?

I'm off to the bank this pm

| | Well Kevin?...are you still as confident after yesterday?...

In case you haven't heard, Ireland's horse, Danoli produced the race of
his life to beat 2 of his main rivals for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.... I
can't remember hearing a louder cheer for a horse winning....

Will Ted Walsh get into trouble for his post-race comments on live
    TV?...

    Ray....

| 1623.3 | Fair play to Danoli, a great horse! | MKTCRV::KMANNERINGS |  | Mon Feb 03 1997 04:20 | 39 |
| | Didn't hear Ted Walsh.

Yes I'm still quite confident, although you have to hand it to Danoli,
it was a great performance, and I was delighted for him.

However, I didn't fancy Danoli, as like many great hurdlers who go
chasing, he has a habit of hurdling his fences, and fell in his two
previous runs. He was quite lucky to get round yesterday, taking big
chances at two fences, and Cheltenham will be longer and harder than
Leopardstown. Also there is the fact that Danoli broke a leg at
Liverpool. He kept running to win that day and has made a remarkable
recovery, but I heard Tom Foley his trainer saying this morning that
the reason he is going for the Gold Cup this year as he is afraid the
leg will not stand training much longer, and he will retire the horse
if he starts to get pain in it. That makes sense to me as I felt the
horse was being asked to do too much too quickly. I would not have big
money on him for Cheltenham, even if Imperial Call was not running.

Imperial Call, it turned out, needed the race, and although passing
Danoli at the second last it was clear that he was blowing and that
Conor O'Dwyer chose not to make a race of it, leaving it to another
day. It would be good if he got another run before Cheltenham, but
Fergie Sutherland is a master, and he is training him for one day.

We have had a very dry winter and the going is fast. If the rains come
and we have the usual mud a Cheletenham, you will see a different
story, and I may have another bet :-) Nor do I regret taking the odds
last week. Jodami has broken down and will be retired.
If Danoli had dumped Tom Treacy again, Imperial Call could have won by
a street and would be hot favorite today.

BTW, I found out that Poteen is not my Sadler's Wells, (misprint in the
Sporting Life :-() but by Irish River. This puts a differrent
perspective on things, but he is still a very fine horse.

Mayo are 12/1 for Sam, Offaly are 7/1 for Liam ....

| | Good old Ted Walsh, he got so excited after seeing Danoli win that he
lost the run of himself on live TV, saying "this horse had every
b@@@@@d in the country knocking him over the last year"....I fell about
    the room after hearing this....

| | Re Ted Walsh

That's not too bad. He described the stewards at Galway as a crowd of
eediots and wasters last year and had to make a grovelling apology the
next day. I think it was the Galway meeting.

Fergie S says Imperial Call will run at Clonmel and be "ripe as a
cherry" for Cheltenham. Buy some 6/1 at Ladbrokes :-). "Yesterday's run
will have bought him on three stone"

cleaning the poor bookies out are ye!...Still danoli with one leg would
be safer than Offaly for liam...

Does this call for a rethink on that Poteen fellow...i'm a dead man if
that doesn't win something....half of Dublin will be in the mood for
    a lynchn'...-)

what odds on Tipp this year??

| | Lads,

remember there is another Irish horse to consider here. Dorans Pride.
Won on Sunday also. I think I will reserve judgement on this one.

Anyway rumour has it that Danoli, Dorans Pride and Imperial call are
entered at Gowran Park in a few weeks time. If that happens I think I
will take the day off and go visit.

| 1623.8 | Dorans is another hurdler | MKTCRV::KMANNERINGS |  | Tue Feb 04 1997 08:52 | 9 |
| | Dorans Pride is another fine horse. He won a five horse novices chase
though, and that is not the same as a Gold Cup. Imperial Call will run
in Gowran. Fergie S said he will be ripe as a cherry for Cheltenham
    after that.

Offaly bate the shite out of Tipp at football, and they are covered by
the Russian ban, so I don't suppose anyone will be bettin on them.

| 1623.10 | fast ground | MKTCRV::KMANNERINGS |  | Wed Mar 12 1997 04:01 | 6 |
| | The ground is fast at Cheltenham, which doesn't suit at all at all,
but I reckon Imperial Call can still win the Gold Cup, although the
task is a lot more than last year. Last year's champion hurdle winner
Collier Bay was pulled up yesterday. Not a good sign.

whats the odds on imperial call...Is that kilkenny hag danoli in the
    same race?..

| 1623.12 | Dublin Flyer, One Man, Grey Monk coombe hill | MKTCRV::KMANNERINGS |  | Wed Mar 12 1997 10:42 | 14 |
| | imperial call is 9-2 5/1 with Ladbrokes.

danoli is about 7/1 I think.

Rake of good horses in race compared to last year, some of whom may go
well on the fast ground. Still think imperial call will win, but he is
not the blue chip investment he was last year. I hope Danoli gets round
ok, but the bigger fences and the fast ground will test his jumping to
the limit. This is the driest year for ages, they had water shortages
in December ! Predict Dorans Pride a non-runner, I wouldn't run him if
it were my shout. It will be a great race. Imperial Call will have to
    jump well too.

| 1623.13 | Mr Mulligan | MKTCRV::KMANNERINGS |  | Thu Mar 13 1997 10:55 | 14 |
| | Mr Mulligan won the Gold Cup. Imperial call and Danoli pulled up.
Danoli clouted some fences and Imperial Call could not handle the fast
ground, which was a complete contrast to last years mud. All last
years champions were beaten badly this year, two pulling up. Dorans
Pride ran a great race to be 3rd, and if the ground is heavy next
year, it will be another great contest. I have given them back most of
what I collected on the Meath-Mayo draw.

Mr Mulligan fell with my money on him on monday, the goat!

Poteen will have to do the business or Keyes will be after me with a
    hurling stick :-)
