I think that's how Billy Connolly spells constipation.
If she was suffering from "the runs" wouldn't that mean she would need
to run faster ;-)

| Yes, Ray, according to the Irish Times, it was diarrhoea that did her
in. What a terrible time to get it! What is also sad is the reports
of her having to strip from her Reebok gear into Asics gear right in
the tunnel before the race in front of men and women due to a dispute
about sponsorship between the Olympic Council of Ireland and the BLe,
whoever they are (they run track an field). This is a like the US
basketball team in 1992, when they had to cover up logos during
national anthems and pictures of certain people due to contract
disputes. What is worrisome in this case is that Sonia was the
protagonist due to some self-serving contract, but the innocent victim
of a dispute between two parties that are meant to act in the interest
of Irish athletes. Ah well, let us hope for better in the 1,500
metres.

| Just in case anyone missed it (it certainly was not on NBC in the USA, who
seem to have not heard of Sonia), she finished 10th in her heat of the
1,500 metres. Her Olympics are over, and she could have done so much
better. A stomach ailment seems to have totally dehydrated her.
Sinead Delahunty did qualify. Meanwhile, some other Irish runner,
Clare McMahon I think her name is, has tested positive for some
substance. It may just be pain-killers, which she took without knowing
the consequences.
Not much left in the Olympics of Irish interest, unless Delahunty does
well. Although, sometimes, there are surprises like Michelle Smith and
John Tracey (Marathon, 1984, Silver Medal).

This *may* be the case, but you would think at that level sport that
you would check to see if *any* medecine you took, be it painkiller or
cold remedy, was totally legal. I am not suggesting for a moment that
there is foul play involved, but, I can't feel any sympathy for the
athlete involved.

| Apparently, she took Robutussin (spelled wrong, probably). This is an
over-the-counter cough medicine. You're right, she should have known
better. The Olympic authorities have let her off with a warning.
