| | It is now 3.00 pm local time here in the Galway plant.
It is VERY quiet here as most of the plant population have taken the
rest of the day off to watch the BIG MATCH.
Since I am not the sporting type and have no inclination to watch
soccer when I don't understand it , I am still here.

    George,

Don't fear. The way I understand it, a win today would have guaranteed
Ireland into the Cup at the top of their group. However, a loss today
does not mean they're out of it!

Yes that's true. However, I don't think we're good enough to win in
Belfast. By my calculations, a draw in Belfast combined with a win
for either Spain or Denmark would see us through, I think ;').

| | I was counting 3 points for a win.
So based on the table ...
We win we go through.
We draw and Denmark win or Spain win by 2 (or more) we're through.
Right?

Spain don't have to win by two or more. A one goal victory for Spain
and a draw for us leaves ourselves and Denmark on the same goal
difference. However, we have scored more goals than Denmark, so we
    go through on that basis.

I can attest to that, having come all the way up on the bus from Cork
that day only to find the place deserted.

There were a few stalwarts at least, so it was not all in vain.

    			WHAT CAN HAPPEN NEXT

    	From: The Irish Voice Newspaper.

	A. Ireland beat Northern Ireland
Effect: Ireland qualify, reardless of result in Seville.

    	B. Northern Ireland beat Ireland
Effect: Spain and Denmark qualify, regardless of result in Seville.

    	C. Draws in Belfast and Seville
    	Effect: Spain and Denmark qualify

	D. A draw in Belfast and Denmark beat Spain
    	Effect: Ireland and Denmark qualify

**	E: A draw in Belfast and Spain beat Denmark in a high scoring game
    	Effect: Spain and Denmark qualify

** F: A draw in Belfast and Spain beat Denmark in a low scoring game
    	Effect: Spain and Ireland qualify

** The possibilities "E" and "F" depend on goal differences. Denmark
are +14 goals. Ireland are +13. If the November 17 games leave
Ireland and Denmark on the same goal difference, the team that has
scored the most goals will go through. At present Denmark have 15
goals and Ireland have 18 which is why it would matter how many
times Denmark scored in Seville, even if they were beaten.

I hope that Jack picks Paul Byrne of Glasgow Celtic for the squad. He has
