| 1142.1 | Bill Clinton | EPIK::HOLOHAN |  | Fri Oct 16 1992 08:58 | 51 |
| |
My wife and I have just received a response from
Bill Clinton's campaign headquarters asking for
  his postition on Irish_American issues.
The letter explained how Bill Clinton has addressed
these issues and expressed his views on several
occasions. It also included a copy of recent articles
from the Irish voice concerning Bill Clinton's public
  statements on Irish issues.
  I'll summarize them below:
  On Immigration:
Irish Immigrants and other immigrants did a lot to build
this country. I've been a friend of Bruce Morrison's
for twenty years since I went to law school with him.
I like the so-called Morrison visa program which so
greatly helped the Irish, and I would support such measures
  at any opportunity.
  On a U.S. peace envoy:
I would support a peace envoy. We've been a little
reluctant to relay our interests in a positive way
because of two reasons: Our long standing relationship
with Great Britain and also the perception that this
situation in Northern Ireland is a very thorny problem.
  On Visa Denial:
I would support a visa for Gerry Adams or any other
elected official from a government recognized by the
United States. I honestly think it would be totally
  harmless to let him in.
  On MacBride Principles:
I like the Principles very much, I think they are a
good thing and if I were President I would ask all state
governors to take a look at adopting them.
  Joe Doherty type Cases:
If a Joe Doherty type case were to arise in the future
I would let the courts decide. If a court ruled in
favor of a political asylum hearing for Doherty and I
were President, I would support that ruling.
  Human Rights Abuses:
I would focus on the works of Amnesty International
and Helsinki Watch in highlighting the abuses perpetrated
by the security forces, as well as other forces, other
purveyors of death and killing there.

| 1142.2 | Don't Vote Bush | TALLIS::DARCY |  | Fri Oct 16 1992 10:27 | 21 |
| | I'm not sure about Perot - but I believe Clinton
would be much more concerned about Irish American
affairs. Clinton is of part Irish ancestry.

The Bush administration has bent over backwards to
the British in extraditing anyone the British have
blackballed, circumventing the courts and the asylum
process (remember good ol Dick Thornburg from Penn?).
Our asylum process applies to anyone in the world,
    except if your from Ireland.

Bush and his lackies have also not supported any MacBride
legislation. Our navy supplied the British fleet with
everything from toilet paper to ammunition during the
Falklands/Malvinas War. We in turn used British bases
to attack the great nemisis Libya, all of 3 million strong.
Bush/Reagan were great bedfellows with those on 10 Downing
    Street.

In any case, don't vote Bush if you care for Irish American
    interests.

| 1142.3 | More on extradition | TALLIS::DARCY |  | Fri Oct 16 1992 12:10 | 8 |
| | And to clarify my last note - I am not in favor of the
USA harboring terrorists. However, we have an official
asylum process in the United States. We do not need
special treaties with Great Britain in order to extradite
any Irishman that the British desire.

| 1142.4 | Ross Perot  for Mayor of Belfast | BODACH::WOFARRELL |  | Mon Oct 19 1992 08:05 | 4 |
| | It was great to see one American Presidential candidate not
pander to a certain section of Irish-America: namely Ross Perot
when in the first Presidential debate he said "If there's hatred
in your heart, I don't want your vote"

and when Ross kicks the bucket and I assume my official duties as Prez
of this great republic one of the first things I'll do is right size
the gov't. It'll be easy to do. Anyone without proof of Irish heritage
will be out on the street. Of course I'll let them build rail roads,
    canals and the like. 8*)

Then I would break all official ties with all foreign nations except
Ireland. I'd throw out the Kennedy induced welfare system and increase
the defense budget by 50%. I'd then take over a few countries that are
rich in some of that oily stuff, white beaches, and good food. I
would then de"clare" the official drink to be guinness.

After doing that, on my second day in office I would make a visit to
the UN and tell them to move the headquarters to Lowell Ma.(the Wang
Towers) cuz Lowell needs the money. I'd then make the Hynes' my
    official summer retreat.

On the third day I'd make my first state visit. Belfast of course.
Where I would take a well deserved rest and enjoy the company of some of
the most beautiful people in the world. I'd then go down to Dublin
where some of the smartest people in the world reside and have a few
more pints. I'd then go to Clare for some visits and Galway of course.

When I get back I'd take a well deserved rest and have a big party.
After I finished all that I'd just hang around and let my vice prez run
things. She would enjoy that I'm sure. 8*).......

Bush say the election is about trust. Which of the following would
you trust Bush to do if elected to a second term?

    a. Never to raise taxes again. Ever. Ever.
    b. To select only the best-qualified Americans for important jobs
such as the Vice Presidency and the US Supreme Court.
    c. Not to throw up on heads of state while visiting other nations.

Well, looks like for the second time in U.S. history
we've thrown off the yoke of King George. Unfortunately
this won't do Joseph Doherty any good now, but at least
there might be some hope for the other brave men that
the British government would like to get their hand on.

with Britain, now that Maggie and Georgie are history. TG.
By the way, I think it's a disservice to King George III
to put him in the same sentence as George Bush.
