Has anyone heard of a novel/biography/history/comedy/fiction... book
called "The Poor Mouth"? It might be by a Miles NaGopleen but this
might be a psuedoname of the main character of the book. It's about
growing up in early 20th century Ireland and is apparently very funny.

    Thanks.

    Teresa.

| Hello, the 'poor mouth' is the English translation of a book in Irish called 'An Beal Bocht' by Brian O'Nolan (alias Flann O' Brien alias Myles na cGopaleen - I forget which name this book is under) It's a sort of parody of books about life in the Gaeltacht regions; I have a copy at home which you're welcome to borrow via internal mail (node YUPPY is in the London office, isn't it ?) if you like. O' Brien is the funniest writer I have ever read; most of his books are available in paperback in the UK (several are collections of his Irish Times columns) my own favourite being the earliest (At Swim-two-birds). | Thanks for the offer of the loan but I think if I can find it I
will buy it. Hope it's as funny as I've heard.

    Teresa.

| "The Third Policeman" is also a masterpiece.

As well as its sequel (more or less) "The Dalkey Archive", where you
find James Joyce offered a job of mending Jesuit priests underwear...
