| | RE .0: The Whisky Castle and the Glenlivet Depository in Tomintoul are
among the best whisky shops, but to my knowledge, the best of all is
Gordon and McPhail in Elgin: not only do they sell practically every
Scotch whiskies there are on the market, but they make their own
purchases, maturing and bottling of many single malts that you're not
going to find under any other label. I have in mind some 16 year old
Laphroaig, 30 year old Royal Lochnagar or 35 year old Glen Grant which
are among the best malts I ever drank. And the prices in Elgin are
often 30-50% lower than in London luxury shops.

 Hi there,
thanks for the info. Yes, I'd heard there was a place in Elgin that
is very good. Do you have an address or phone number for them please? Also
do you know if they do mail order? (I hope so - it isn't often I'm up
 that far north!)

| | Re .2: Unfortunately I don't have the address. It's in a small street
parallel to the main avenue in Elgin (about 20 meters from the main
avenue as the crows fly), but I've never bothered to get the actual
address as I usually go to the place when I happen to be in Scotland.
However, you'll find them in a telephone directory, this is where I
found them the first time I went to the place. I never mail ordered
from them but it would be very strange if they didn't. By the way,
mail order wouldn't be very practical as you need to be in the shop to
see what they have in store. I don't know if they have a catalogue.

| | I have tracked down the shop in Elgin which reputedly has the biggest range
of Whiskies in the world. I also found a place in London which supposedly
has the 2nd biggest in the world. Both of these places do mail order, although
the postage isn't cheap. I was quoted a minimum of around 20 for a malt and
postage. I'll post the addresses and phone numbers here of these places
when I have them incase anyone else wants to order a catalogue.
Out of interest - is there anywhere in the US with a big range of Scottish
malts? This may sound like a daft question but with the exhobitant tax
slapped on a bottle here, it may well be cheaper to order it to be
delivered from the US to the UK and pay the duty (or even collect it the
next time I'm over)
Oddbins may also be worth a go for UK supplies, I'll try them later tonight
and the place in Waverley Market, Edinburgh will be investigated over
Christmas ... :*)
slinte!
