    My name is Monica (Horgan) McCann.  I believe my sister Kasey is
    one of the "read-onlies" you met this weekend.  My sister Julia
    has written a note from time to time.  Our brothers Patrick and
    Kevin also work at Digital, but I'm not sure if they have ever
    read the Celt file.  I heard all about the wonderful meeting in Boston

    Hi!  My name is Patsy (Griffin) Jenkins.   My father was born and
    raised in Doolin.   My mothers parents (Murphy and Feeley) were from
    Co. Cork.   
    I met a few noters at Paddy Culberts' fourth of July bash.  I've 
    been enjoying reading many of the notes related to Irish history,
    tradition, and current affairs.   I'm hoping to visit Ireland soon
    to trace my family history - with the help I've received from some

    Yes, I admit it I was the one of the "Read Onlies" who Paddy met
    this past weekend. My sister Monica has proudly introduced the 
    siblings in her reply and Julia mentioned our Irish geneology in
    her introduction. I have been to Ireland in 1985 and hope to return
    "real soon."

    Hello !  My name is Theresa O'Loughlin.  I've enjoyed reading the
    notes on history, culture,etc.   I visited Ireland once when I was
    nine and hope to go back again now that I'm older and can appreciate
    and enjoy it more. 
     
    I'm currently trying to trace my family history
    and have really appreciated the notes on genealogy.  Once I get
    organized, I'll probably have some questions (so I won't be read-only
    anymore !).  All I know now is that the first one of my
    Dad's side of the family to come here came from Co. Clare in the
    mid- 1800's.  I think I'd like to narrow that down a little bit

I'm a read only noter in this conference; probably because of the abundance of Irish 
Irish contributors and not an awful lot of Welsh topics.

I was born and bred in Corwen, Clwyd (Wales) and went to school in Bala, Gwynedd
 I learnt to speak english at primary school, Welsh being my mother tongue.

I've been with Digital about a year now, having joined straight from Manchester 
University. I currently work in the Networking and Communications group at the 
U.K. Customer Support Centre in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

    A good place to start with your enquiry would be the Clare Genealogy
    Centre, Corofin, Co. Clare.  It's probably the best such centre
    in the country.

    Thanks, Dermot.  I'll be writing them a letter once I track down
    some more information over here.   After I finish questioning my
    elders, I'm going to visit the local LDS Family History Center.
    I hope to get enough information to put together a coherent 
    inquiry for the Clare center, but if I can't find the info, it'll
    have to be an incoherent inquiry :-)

    I've always felt reading this that everyone personally knows each
    other in this conference - so I tend to stay out of the way....but

    While it is true that some of us know each other 'personally', it
    wasn't always that way.
    
    Jump right in and join the fray....you'd be surprised who you might
    already know.  For example,  judging by your node, I'd say you work
    in Andover & we probably have some mutual acquaintances.
    
    Trust me, most CELTers' barks are worst than their bite. (Except
    Paddy ---whose over in beautiful Eire as we type!)

    Hi....I've responded once to the "am I Irish" note...but generally read
    only.....JoEllen Fitzgerald Scotland, Finance Analyst, Westford, Ma.
    I have a strong tie to my Celtic heritage.  My husband, Jamie, and I
    went to Scotland on our honeymoon.  We are currently awaiting the
    arrival of our first child, a daughter, Caeli Shea. (I know Caeli
    should be Ceilidh, but the Americans just wouldn't know how to 
    pronounce it; I intend on teaching her the proper spelling when she's
    old enough)  I enjoy this file; gives me a less colored view of real
    life Ireland.  Will someday visit; have an open invitation with a
    Northern Irish pilot in the British Service, who we met on St. Andrews
    golf course in Scotland.  It was and interesting 18 holes discussing
    my heritage in County Kerry/County Cork...and his Northern Irish
    ties.  He was very educated and had a very open view to the going
    ons there.  I could have sworn he was from the South. 8^)

Hello, I'm Mauro Franzoni, working in TSC/SSU in Milan, Italy.

Even if I think I've not even a drop of irish blood (hope you don't mind it)
I'm really interested in celtic and irish culture ...

I felt in love with Ireland and its friendly people two years ago when I
first came and I confirmed it during my just finished holidays that I spent
over there.

I'd also like to move there for some years but don't think it would be easy,
seen that many irish people is looking for job abroad due to unemployeement...
anyway I'll probably break my reading_only with a note about this ...
(really I already broke my silence asking for information twice (before coming))

I also tried to learn a bit of Irish during my last vacation but the only
word I remember is:

    OK, I suppose that this is the time to own up to the fact that I'm
    a "read only" as well.  By heritage I can not claim to be irish.
    But having lived there for four years, having two of our daughters
    born at the Galway Regional with names like Deirdre and Niamh, as
    well as the fact that I joined DEC in Galway gives me more than
    a passing interest in Eire. I did not even mention the fact that
    earlier this year I would have killed someone for a good pint of
    guiness; However, I have since been back and managed to have a
    couple of decent pints, as well as having brought back a couple
    of six packs for emergencies when the Guiness contents in my blood
    gets too low.
    I will continue to enjoy reading your entries.

           When one speaks of Paddy Culbert one does not refer to mere
    physical attributes, for, and I exaggerate not, the Man is a mental
    giant. When you meet this Man (such an inadequate/limiting word),
    you don't easily forget, His personality and presence are immediately
    both striking and uplifting. His energy knows no bounds, His time is 
    Mankinds, His generousity overflows, a true heart of gold. The
    definitive friend when in need. His track record in just the brief time
    that I have known Him (merely scratching the surface) is phenomenal,
    and is currently organising the Celtic Heritage week within the company.

    some of you may have seen some of my forays into the Notes files,like
    most new folk in Digital it took me a few faltering starts before
    I decided to throw caution to the wind and breenge in,as we say
    in the West of Scotland.
    So I feel the time has come to formally introduce myself.
    My name is Kenny Delaney,born and raised a Scot,third generation,but
    100% Irish by ancestery.
    I've been a Digitalis for 5 months at the Ayr plant and I'm loving
    every second of it.
    My particular interest is Scottish history and the effect of Irish
    Celts on it.

    I can only claim minimal Irish ancestry, but I love the country.
    I lived in Dublin for 14 months, working as a lay missionary.  I
    do have to admit that Dublin is one of my most favorite cities in
    the world...but my favorite spot in the Republic is Kilmore Quay,
    Co. Wexford.  I just left the country a few weeks ago, and am missing
    it terribly.  Finding this notes file has greatly cheered me...

    Good grief I'm slipping.  I really haven't been in notes much in
    the last month.....I didn't even see this one!
    
    Yes, there is enough land to be a baroness...the scale is just a
    little different, that's all.  My little parcel is green and peaceful
    & beautiful...but I doubt most would make the commute for a
    party...unlike me and my friends who travel the greater New Enland
    circuit!
    
    As for R.I. & Southern Mass there is really a lot to choice from.
    In downtown Providence, there's the Abbey (very nice) and they are
    just opening a Rosie O'Grady's (don't know what it is like.  
    
    Also, I went to the Irish Embassy in Easton, Mass last week....very

    50% Scot (Mom's side). My fathers family name is Riordan (I believe
    it was O'Riordan but they dropped the O when they arrived in the 20's.)
    and my Mother hails from the Black/Degnin Clans in Glasgow and
    Edenborough (sp?) Scotland.  I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters, 
    1 sister-in-law and 2 nephews.   I am hoping to make a trip back to 
    Ireland in about a year but until then I will be a frequent reader
