Do you have the correct spelling in "Foistenach"? The closest I can
come to that is, "Foiscelach" which means "In large measure." This,
translated literally would mean, "large-handed," or "generous." My
translation of the total phrase would be, "The generous hand forever,"
or "Hurrah for the generous hand." "Lamh" is hand and "abu" is a
generic term for "forever." My Irish is rusty after being so long in
the States!!!!

Having looked up the name Sullivan I came up with the following:
The motto is
LAMH FOISDINEACH AN UACHTAR
The translation is
WHAT WE GAIN BY CONQUEST WE SECURE BY CLEMENCY
The above info was obtained from
DEBRETT`S ILLUSTRATED BARONETAGE 1985
and
BURKE`S PERAGE + BARONETAGE

Yet another possibility:
Victory to the steady hand.
Lamh = Hand
Foistenach = steady (this was one translation of the word in my
dictionary
Ab� = victory
