| | The Summer School that you refer to is known irreverantly as "The
Willie Week". It is the Willie Clancy Summer School and is held
in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare in the first week (8 days for the purpose
of the school) of July. Details can be had from:

    		Muris O Rochain,
    		Scoil Samhradh Willie Clancy,
    		Miltown Malbay,
    		Co. Clare.

Classes are held at all levels in:

Fiddle, flute, concertina, uilleann pipes, singing and set dancing.
(no bodhran classes - thank God!)

The week is FANTASTIC but you'll need a vacation to recover!

| | re .0 Artie McGlynn

I have the album at home I can't remember the label but it is worth
having. I'll look up the details for you.

It was issued about 10 years ago, so you may have difficulty tracking
    it down.

| 417.4 | McGlynn's Fancy | DUB01::POCONNELL | Pat O'Connell | Tue Aug 09 1988 03:51 | 11 |
| | The album was called "McGlynn's Fancy" and was issued on the Mint
Label by Mint Records, 120 Coach Road, Templepatrick, Ballyclare
    (Co. Antrim, I think).

Artie plays the guitar anf buzooki and David Hammond sings on a
couple of tracks. My favourite title is "The Floating Crowbar".

    O.K?

    Pat.

I have a recording of this album on tape. I recorded it of a
friend's LP some years ago. I give it a play every once in a
while and it's well worth it. The album is AMAZING, Arty Mc
Glynn could be described as the 'Leo Kottke' of traditional
guitar playing.(if that's any help?). Arty himself has been
around for a long time, started his career with the 'showbands'
way back then in the '60's,he even did a stint with Van Morrison.

He's had a tragic life, his wife died early on in their marriage
and left him with a younge kid(daughter i think) to rear.He had
to drop out of the music scence for a while. But now he is playing
with a 'traditional' group called 'Patrick Street' who have toured
the US and Europe. They have at least 2 albums to their credit and
are well worth catching if they are in your vicinity. The group also
features Kevin Burke(fiddle) ex Bothy Band and Andy Irvine(mandolin)
ex planxty.I can't remember the other musicans in the group at the
    moment.!!!

'Mc Glynn's Fancy' may be difficult to get but it's worth the 'hassle'
to search for it. Next time in town I'll have a look around the
    record shops and make inquiries.

    Rgds.,

    - Dave Keating,
        Galway.

(accordion), from Co Clare, ex De Dannan, and one of the best Irish
    accordion players alive.

I guess I'm going to have to come up with more difficult questions!
    ;-)

Pat, Dave and Denis: Thanks very much for your input. My friends
(who own two wonderful Irish Wolfhounds!!), Anthia and Sandy, will
be impressed with your quick and thoughtful information. Isn't
    the *network* and vaxnotes fantastic!!??

Anthia and Sandy would enjoy meeting up with some of you and thanking
you in person I'm sure. I hope that they might.

| | Re: Artie's album, let me know what town you live in, or if it's
too far away, your address. I'll make you a copy on tape & we can
meet for a pint, or I'll mail it to you. (DECXPS::KSULLIVAN).

FYI. Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, Maura O'Connell & Band are playing
an outdoor concert in No. Easton, MA., down at Tommy McGann's 1882
Irish Embassy bar on this Sunday afternoon.(Aug.14). Will be well
    worth the journey.

Also, Kevin Burke will be in concert on Tuesday Aug.16 in the Irish
Alehouse in DEDHAM, MA. I don't know if anyone is playing with him,
but anyone who knows Kevin and his playing (& fabulous sense of
humour), will know that this will be one of the summer's best shows.

As I said in a previous note, these musicians NEED & DESERVE your
support. Especially, if we want them to continue bringing the music
over here. NO SUPPORT - NO NEXT TOUR!!!! Then we all loose.
