Dublin is truly one of my most favorite cities in the world.
Its a great place to be on the "First Sunday" in September.

The ONLY "fair city" in all of Ireland is, by the banks of the
lovely Lee!!!!
CORK, of course!
Dublin and its denizens are mere paltry shadows, when compared to
the robust, stalwart, honest, inhabitants of the Coal Quay of Cork!
As we all know, there are only two kinds of people in the world:
Irish, and those that wish they were! Well, as I understand it,
amongst the Irish, there are only two kinds, those that hail from
Cork, and those that wish they did!!
KeVin and Pat: One can only hope St. Finbarr will forgive your
"confusion" about this matter. :^)

| I have the (sorry) 'de' best of both worlds. I was born in Co. Cork
(Cobh) but became a naturalised Dub.
I would not suggest for one moment that Dublin could hold a candle
to Cork for physical beauty, charm, hospitality, quality of the
people etc. etc., however, despite his connections with Cork, it
is Dublin which is the city of Ulysses.
Now maybe this was a calculated ploy on the Master's part to inflict
that weird animal 'the Joycean Scholar' on the poor unsuspecting
citizenry of Dublin.

| Listen, you bleedin' redneck, watch wat you say about Dublin. No
redneck can become a 'naturalised' Dub. Us Dubs are of a supernatural
quality. After many generations of living in Dublin, some descendents
of these rednecks are suitable ashamed of thier ancestory and can
be counted as Dubs - had to clear meself as a Dub somehow as 1
grandparent was not a Dub :-)

If us Dubs could hold a candle to Cork, we'd burn the hole. Quality
of people, what a joke. Count yourself as a redneck , Mr O'Connell.
Dubs are going to strike back at this drivel.

| I didn't open this topic to be insulted by a gobs---e from Inchicore
who thinks that culture is something you put on mushrooms. If I
didn't know that he came of decent stock (his father is a gentleman
- as was St. Patrick) I wouldn't deign to acknowledge such chauvinism
and xenophobia. Sorry to use such long words Joe I realise you 'native'
Dubs have difficultly with the lingo. :-(
Let the rest of us get back to discussing literature!

Based upon my visit to your fair land, I was starting to wonder
where Dublin ended and where the rest of Ireland began...talk about
your sprawling suburbs! I'm glad to see there is a strong sense
of local pride left in some of the other great cities. This is
also a jab at all those folks that think all of Massachusetts is
a suburb of Boston!
