| | I think there is train service to Sligo from Dublin, stopping at
Drumod and Jamestown, 2 towns in Lovely Leitrim. Although you
don't state which part of Leitrim you're heading for??? If your
relatives are in the northern section then you'd do better to go
    on to Sligo.

    Bring your jumper!

Leitrim is in the West of Ireland and it is one of Ireland's
most depressed counties. Margaret Heckler (U.S. ambassador)
hails from there. THe nearest the train would get you is
Boyle (co. Roscommon) on the Sligo train. Boyle is 9 or 10
miles from Leitrim town (wouldn't bet on a good bus service though)
You are talking three hours from Dublin by either train or car.
THere are hotter places that Leitrim, but winter is setting in and
the days are getting very short. Nights are for warming up and
    drinking porter.

I think my dad's family is actually from the TOWN of Leitrim, not
the county of Leitrim....there is such a place?? Things are a little
vague on his side of the family. My Mom's side is much more definite.
I actually have the street in Chard and have been invited for tea!
The Brits seem to have a better handle on the "paperwork!"

Taking your surname (O'Rourke) the best place to go to find
family would be Manorhamilton in north Leitrim(best station - Sligo).
There is an O'Rourke family there who live in the old castle and
should have some info on other O'Rourkes(very musical family also).
If in Manorhamilton call into The Tavern on The Green ,a great pub
(Biased because the girlfriends parents own it).
There is a 'Village' of Leitrim consisting of two pubs ,a shop,
a canal, two dogs ,three cats and a petrol pump. All you have to do
is call into the pub there and state your mission!. You will be
asked everything and anything but you should get the required Info.
