> Floating Point Systems - Supercomputer-maker lays off 400 in Oregon & Ireland
> Floating Point Systems Inc. said Tuesday it will lay off 400 people in
> Beaverton and at its plant in Ireland as part of a major reorganization. The
> layoffs, set to begin June 15, will reduce employment to about 800, or half
> the number employed before the money-losing, 17-year-old maker of high-speed
> scientific computers began a series of cuts in August. Milton R. Smith,
> chairman and CEO, said no decision has been made on who will be laid off,
> except for three VPs given the option of taking lower-paying jobs. He said the
> affected employees would be notified within a week. Smith said the company's
> plant in Ireland would be "very, very substantially reduced" but gave no
> details.

They are located in a town called SWORDS just north of Dublin,on
    the main Belfast road.
I was on site there several times as they had a DECsupport contract
on their Vax's.They seemed to be doing well.
