| 130.1 | FRANCE V WALES | FNYFS::AUNGIER | Rene Aungier, Ferney-Voltaire, France | Tue Feb 10 1987 10:25 | 12 |
| | Hi Mike,

The French beat the Welsh by 16 to 9 if memory serves me well. In
the first half the Welsh lead by 9 to 0 but the French made a good
come back to win in a good style.

I saw part of the French V Wales match as naturally enough living
in France this was the main match on television.

Why isn't Ireland competing? Is it because of the NZ/South
    Africa affair?

What happened the US? They have a national Rugby team of sorts
(The Eagles). They are surely at least at the same level as Spain
or...... I almost said Fiji. How embarassing.

    Re .3
Of Course Ireland is competing. We are in the same group as Wales
and if we can stifle the wizard Davies, we expect to be there at
    the finish.

Look out Scotland, saturday week, we invade. Your elimination from
the record books of rugby, as being the recipients of the biggest
beating in the game at international level, when Ireland beat Roumania,
    is but a tempory respite.

    Snake is drumming it up.

| | ......and dont bet on Fijii not being able to give a U.S. team a
run for their money. From what I remember of their tour a few years
ago, although not up to the European.Aust/NZ level, they showed
    a modicum of promise.

| | England showed a modicum of promise too in the game against Ireland.
It was half way through the second half when the centres actually
touched the ball!! Gasp!!! I thought there was a new law which said
players in white shirts with numbers above 10 weren't allowed to
touch the ball. Unless your name is Rose, of course.

But the French will feel the backlash. Something like that, anyway.
