783.0. "lose RAID-1 on OpenVMS and notification" by BEET::EAGAN (Among the fashion impaired...) Thu Feb 27 1997 06:20
My customer has an Alpha OpenVMS Cluster with HSZ40s. I don't
have the specifics of versions, but I believe it's 6.2-1H(mumble).

They are using HSZ RAID-1 with 2 disks. They want to know when/if
one of the disks drops out of the RAID-1 set.

    How/where is this reported?

Maybe the answer is in this notesfile. I did scan the titles and
read the notes for "vms, raid-1, raid1, raid 1, errlog, notify"
etc. And, I couldn't quite find the answer I'm looking for.

I did see that PolyCenter Console Manager direct monitoring of the
HSZs via serial line was an option, but that's extra hardware and
    software they don't have.

I also *think* (not 100% sure) that SWCC might do it. Again, that's
introducing another haredware box and OS (Alpha with NT) that's not
    really wanted.

Is a RAID-1 disk dropping out reported through to OpenVMS?

| | When this condition occurs, the console will report an error event
that a device has been remove from the mirrorset (instance 2290064)
and VMS will report a Raid membership event report in the error log
(extended sense 07a0). If you run the error log through DEC Event, you
    will get more info.

    hope this helps, Larry
