Wolfgang,
I hope you already have your plane tickets because if you don't you
should forget about getting to HK on those dates. With the handover to
CHina on July 1, most flights and hotels have been booked for a year!.
There are MANY hotels in Hong Kong, but no bed & breakfasts that I'm
aware of. There are student hostels, the most famous of which is the
ChungKing Mansion in TsimTsaTui. I personally wouldn't stay there, but
if you're used to hostel accomodation, it could be ok. Your best bet is
to pick up a travel guide from Lonely Planet or Fodor, etc. That week
will be a wild week in Hong Kong, I wish I could be there.
Debbie (who has been to HK about 30 times)

If you want to save some money. You can live a hotel in Shenzhen Shenzhen is a city just cross the border between Hongkong and Mainland. It takes 20 minutes to drive from Shenzhen to Hongkong. Enjoy morning tea in thousands of possible places(much better than any Chinese restraut in US but cheaper than any). You know what, I lived there before I come to USA. John,
When were you able to drive to Hong Kong from Shenzhen in 20 min? At
3am? Its takes longer than that by express train (I just took the train
last month and it was about 30 min from Kowloon Station to Shenzhen).
Also, if you haven't learned to drive in HK, I wouldn't recommend
anyone even attempt it (I have never seen any car rental places) and
the taxis generally won't take you, so bus is the only other option and
this would take at least an hour.
Debbie
