    We have a TrueCluster configuration consisting of two 4100's with
    one MC card in each connected to a hub.  We installed the software 
    and ran clu_ivp on each machine.  They both suceeded.  
    
    Now when we reboot one of the machines we get an kernel mode panic.
    This panic occurs on either machine and it doesn't happen on every
    reboot.  We do not have any services defined at this time.  
    The crash data and decevent give us know clues as to why the machine
    panics.
    
    Following is what we have when the machine panics:
    
    Disabled LUN on a LUN HTL nexus
    AM found a host at bus 2 target 7, lun 7
    
    trap: invalid memory read access from kernel mode
    
    	faulting virtual address:	0x0000000000000060
    	pc of faulting instruction:	0xfffffc00006323c0
    	ra contents at time of fault:	0xfffffc00006323b8
    	sp contents at time of fault:	0xffffffffa7e371d0
    
    panic (cpu 1): kernel memory fault
    
    The same panic will happen on either machine depending on which one
    is rebooted.  Do I need a service defined?
    
    I can't find a scsi error in the errorlog to point to scsi error.
    
    Has anyone seen anything like this before?  Something that I might
    be missing.

	You need to provide more crash data than this. In particular provide the stack traces from the crash in /var/adm/crash/crash-data.?. This is a minimum. Without that information nothing very little can be said [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

	We haven't seen this before. The crash could be due to cluster code or then again it may not be. If you don't have a crash, you can feed the memory trap info into the debugger. Boot genvmunix (boot -fi genvmunix) and then start the debugger (dbx -k /vmunix). Feed the values for PC and RA into the debugger as follows: (dbx) 0xfffffc00006323c0/i (dbx) 0xfffffc00006323b8/i This will give us the names of the most recent (PC) and next-to-most-recent (RA) functions. 	The OS version is 4.0B and TCR14. The 4100's are configured as follows: 2 466 cpu's in each. 2 FDDI DAS controllers in each. 1 DE500 2 KZPDA in each for system disk. 1 KZPSA for shared bus connected to HSZ50. 1 Gig of memory in each. One thing we found, after changing all the hardware, if we removed one of the CPU's out of each box we were unable to get the machine to panic. 	Please do not enter QARs that refer to the ASE notes file. The specific information should be put into the QAR for reference. I have fixed the QAR entered for this problem and assinged it to the correct engineer. Thank you -- Greg

	After installing all the v4.0b patches (DUV40BAS00003-19970425) this problem has gone away. At this time I don't know which patch fixed the problem and I was real hesitant to install them not knowing what one to install. If anyone has an idea which patch would have fixed this I would like to know so that I can explain it to the customer. Thanks for the help. Howard

	I believe USEG recommends installing ALL patches.

	I just got a call from the customer and they only want the minimum required patches installed to fix the problem. We tried installing just the kernel memory fault patches and the machine paniced. I don't have a clue as to what other patches I should install and still be at the minimum required. Any help would be appreciated. Howard
