    Mike,

Up here in Maine, we have the 6 pocket sheets, semi-rigids and
only missing the boxes, which I've been told, are ordered. The
    	semi-rigids are alittle steep though!

I have a set of the Fleer "Tall Boys" Hockey and was truly amazed that
I even liked them...they kind of grow on you...The only price I
saw thus far was in Tuff Stuff, and they seem to hold decent
value as of now...who knows in a month of so....but the cards are
nice, and weren't any more expensive to buy!

| 620.2 | I will buy it, but I wouldn't invest | MSDOA::PARKERJ |  | Mon Jan 03 1994 12:46 | 14 |
| | I am of the opinion that the product value (cost) will fall at least on
the Powerplay product for this year. I think the inserts tend to drive
price of the product, however it is my understanding that Powerplay has
an insert in each pack. That to me will make it a whole lot easier to
complete thus reducing its reputation as "scarce" insert set. I'm sure
one could argue that thier popularity would increase since you can get
all the inserts pretty easily, but the ther probably won't be any $10
lindros or whoever cards. So the kids will choose to gamble elsewhere.
I have not seen then in SC, also I have not seen the peripherals to go
with any of the big cards. I thought that the Gameday was pretty
popular here. I think that stuff will be rather limited because of the
low number of products using the big format.

| | Mike,

I opened and completed the 1993 Gameday. I put them into the 6 pocket
pages. I really like the bigger cards. The inserts were nice and I
like the insert per pack. May never have them go up in price and they
may fall but this set was for my collection. Didn't even try to sell
    any dups.

I have thought about doing the 1992 Gameday. The set just fell from
$50 to $45. Not any rookies of note so the set will probably sink
fast. Last night I went into a Cumberland Farms in Billerica. They had
quite a card section. They had boxes like 91 Fleer Ultra FB for
$12 (they are $5 at some shows). In the midst of the boxes was a
1992 box of Gameday for $29.95. Guess this means that they can be
had cheaply at a show. I'll pass for now but will keep an eye out for
    a couple cheap boxes.

In summary I like the concept (although I thought the colors of the
basketball inserts were too far out (must be too conservative)).
Yet I don't see Gameday, Powerplay or Slamdunk being
    "investment material".

People do whine and tend to avoid the tall cards, 'cause there
isn't anyway to store them.' Well the pages and rigids are becoming
fairly widespread, I just lay them sideways in a box. I would like
to see "soft" plastics too as I like to put any cards worth a
semi-rigid first in an inner soft plastic.

As far as speculating, I wouldn't speculate in any Fleer product
if you paid me, Fleer will pump out alot of these and the interest
/demand just isn't that great. Football is football and seems
to have a limit as to how much interest, especially now that the
season is winding down. The Power Play hockey seems pretty dead
even here in new england, boxes are just sitting at the wharehouses.
So that leaves the Jam Session basketball, it did disappear from
BJ's @ $40 (at least in Nashua) so I guess it's fairing better than
the hockey, but I wouldn't sink alot money into them. Very nice
    collectable however.

| 620.5 | Great for collecting ... | PENUTS::JST_ONGE | John St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715 | Mon Jan 03 1994 20:24 | 13 |
| | Topps Big Cards from 1988-1990 didn't fare well because they weren't
standard size, although I thought they were very nice cards and I
    collected them.

I really like the Jam Session cards, more than the Power Play maybe
because they are full bleed photos. I bought a set of GameDay last
year from Jeff since I thought it was probably the best of the foot-
ball issues last year. Amazing that it do well without inserts. I'll
probably do the Power Play and GameDay when prices drop a little.

Jeff's definitely right about investing in Fleer cards.

| 620.6 | prefer normal sizes | SEND::MCEVOY |  | Tue Jan 04 1994 10:45 | 5 |
| | Personally, I'm not too keen on the bigger cards. Plenty of normal
sized cards out there to keep me busy.

    just my opinion -dennis

| | I agree with Dennis!

There is enough "regular" sized cards to keep one busy. Other than a
few special cards, a Gameday Bledsoe and Mirer, i'm not collecting
    many/any "Big Cards"

| | I have the 92 gameday set, almost a 2nd set, and almost a 93 set.
I think they grow on you.... they're the same size as my Huarte.

BTW, I have a few of the tall basketball (Jordan, Pippen, etc.) that
I would trade for some tall ex-ND basketball jocks.
