| 321.1 | now hockey could only get the TV contract of baseball | SMAUG::FLOWERS | IBM Interconnect Eng. | Tue Oct 01 1991 15:24 | 7 |
| | Oy! Not another hockey set - this is gonna get as bad a baseball!
Being just a hockey card collector I've never heard of Classic.
What other sports do they do? How are the cards/sets?
Cheers,
Dan

| | They sure ain't been playing classic hockey, but can someone point me
    to the Bruins notesfile. I lost it (some think this is not a new
    problem for me).

| | I saw a few samples over the weekend. Being as these cards are either
    labled as or refered to as draft cards I expected them to be of players
    at the draft shaking hands, putting on jersies, posing infront a walls
    but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the players are in gear,
    on the ice and although not in game action, still doing something for
    the camera (skating, stopping, shooting).
    Also the cards borders are green. Between Classic and Score(red and
    purple) this is certainly a colorful year for hockey cards.
    Oh yeah, I also saw some samples for Ultimate hockey. They seem to be
    the same deal as Classic with a draft set with players in action shots.
    They look OK (white cards, good action picture)but I only saw two
    cards.

| 321.5 | is amt of hockey sets > football or basketball? | USRCV1::SAPPB |  | Thu Nov 14 1991 09:38 | 15 |
| | Picked up the new Becketts Hockey and saw 2 more draft sets. One is all
    draft picks, the name of the company is something Holograms and they
    are billing themselves as the finest hockey cards ever produced (kinda
    ballsy, dontcha think?) and the other is Star Picks and their claim to
    fame is a 57 cards set of recent draft potentials, Russian players, and
    top players who've been in the league 2 years or less (Fedorov, Jagr,
    Belfour and Roenick were mentioned/shown).

    When is the madness gonna end. I'm afraid to open ANY magazine for fear
    of seeing an add for yet another hockey card draft or regular set. Has
    anyone kept a tally of all the hockey sets + subsets + updates coming
    out this year? I was at 15 in August and have since been blown away.

    Bill

| 321.6 | they're creepy and they're kookie... | USRCV2::SAPPB |  | Wed Dec 18 1991 14:41 | 14 |
| | Got my set of Classic yesterday thru a fellow noter. They're nice
    cards; green + glossy on good stock with a mix of action shots and
    head shots of players in their OHL, NCAA and NHL(with emblem colored
    out) uniforms.
    This bonus card is of Rocket Ishmail in hockey gear.
    There is also a checklist with a letter of authenticity and stamped
    number on the back.

    Not bad, I'm only familiar 1/4 of the players but it still is a
    nice premiere set.
    Anybody know anything about any of the other draft/rookie sets?

    Bill

    My BIL has picked up the StarPics set, and *really* liked that one.
    He thought it was head and shoulders above the Classic set.

    The Arena set is just beginning to make the rounds, as is Smokey's.

    I haven't seen either other than b/w pictures in SCD.
