| |
I have the 1952 Topps Reprint set, that I bought a few years back.
Could someone tell me the value of this set if you know, I would
    appreciate any expert advice.

                       Regards,
                         Don

I've seen prices (for-sale prices) ranging from $150-300.

Usually the ads state that they have sets for sale (seal intact)
    for around $50 more.

The $300 is a high, and the majority of the ads seem to be
    between $150-200.

There are only 10,000 of them, and I see more '84F Update,
'84T USFL, etc., sets for sale more often than I see this set
    for sale.

| | I also like the Reprint Sets. Like John said, its the next best thing
to owning the real thing, without having the home equity loan to pay
    each month.

I own the 52 Topps Reprint set, and have accumulated most of all the
Mickey Mantle Reprint cards over the years. They are in most cases
better quality than the original, but maybe thats what makes the
original that more expensive, that older worn-out look.

The new Sporting News Conlon Set is great if you like to read and look
at the older players. Some of there stats aren't that bad, and these
guys were pretty good size too!

Anyway, I like them, and would recommend them if the price is right.

RE: .01
1. re:reprints/retrospectives -I wasn't really aware of the Conlon
Sporting News Collection. Tell me about it. (I assume it's a retrospective??)
2. re:Rheal Cormier - Sorry, Never heard of him. Read my intro 2.107
                      and you'll understand why.
RE: .02
I didn't really notice another note dedicated to reprints which is why
i started this one. If there is, the moderator can feel free to move it.
-Curious- why can't the '52 Topps be reprinted?
-Generally, I wouldn't think these things would escalate much over
the years either. However, if reprints are well done and cover important
original sets (I would think that the T-206, 48 & 49 Bowman and the Nat.
Chicle sets would be considered important) they should hold their value and
 experience modest long term growth?
RE: 1948 Sport Thrills
1. Was that by the Swell gum company out of Phily? (The company that been
putting out the Swell Sports Greats sets for about 3 years now)
2. Why don't you like it?
RE: Reccommendations-
Has anyone in here seen the National Chicle (FB)& the Negro League (BB) sets.
I'm thinking about getting them and the T-206. I haven't seen anyone up here
that carries them and I'd hate to order them sight unseen, especially since the
T-206 is at least $40.U.S.

R.M.F.

The '52 Topps reprint set can't be reprinted, because Topps made
it a limited edition -- 10,000 sets only.

I imagine they could go ahead and reprint it, but it's unlikely.

The thing looked like a dog, ran like a dog, and sold like a dog.
But that dog was wearing a golden collar, and Topps ain't
    figured it out yet.

The T-206 is incredible. As is the T-205 set. There are two
versions of the T-206 set. One is usually sold for around $20
-- the 523 (or is it 513) card version. The other sells for
more and has 524 (or is it 514) cards. Don't ask me which is the
extra card because I don't know. Occasionally QVC or HSC has this
set for sale, and it's the set that's SHORT one card. Keep this in
    mind.

| | I was talking to a dealer at a local show(Westboro) and he was feeding
me some information on cards and how a Magazine can create cards
without the Stars permission. As long as it is attached to a full
sheet of paper, like the Tuff Stuff Jr. Magazine, they dont need
permission from the player. But if its a seperate card, or perforated,
then permission must be rec'd prior to the production. Does anyone
else out there know if this makes sense?? As I understand, The Wall
St. Journal has come out with a little booklet of players, where you
can tear out the picture and make a postcard out of it. Anybody else
    seen these cards??

| 308.10 | Cracker Jack Reprints (1914-1915)? | CHIPS::CHOY |  | Tue Sep 17 1991 12:38 | 5 |
| | Has anyone seen or purchased the Cracker Jack reprint set(s)? I've
seen these for sale in ad with the other reprint sets such as the T205,
T206. I'd like to pick the Cracker Jack set one of these days since
commons seem to go for $150+ in NrMT condition. The set would require
a mortgage...unless I could sell $5.8M worth of stock first.

| | The Cracker Jack set is one of the few reprints sets I never picked
up. I believe there are two sets 1914 and 1915. Looks nice though,
but then they usually do a decent job on these anyway.

I was thinking about ordering the T206 set and I was wondering if there
was anyone else out there interested in this set. The set is selling
for $49.99/set, but if you buy 5 sets the price was either $30 or $35.
I would have to call to get the exact price, so if anyone is interested
just send me mail at LUNER::FIRMANI.

    Thanks,

    Mike
