| 289.1 | Great Set | ASDS::KELLY |  | Thu Jul 18 1991 12:50 | 15 |
| | Hi Donna. The best way is to get a copy of the latest Baseball
    Americanna by Jim Beckett ( make sure that you get this years-
    you can get it at the library ) and review the section on
    Card Condition and then look at the pages with your set listed.
    The condition of the most expensive cards will determine the value of
    your set. If you want to sell it you can expect that you will
    get less than the book value that you determined.
    Don't be discouraged it's a wonderful set. If your not in a hurry
    there are some notes that would look at it and tell you what it's
    worth. All you would have to pay is the postage and the insurance.

    Good Luck.

    Do they still play baseball in Cincy?

| 289.2 | my father has the set | VERGA::GIANCOLA | Donna Giancola | Thu Jul 18 1991 14:09 | 11 |
|  |     Hi Mike,

    I don't have the set my father does. He's not in a hurry for anything.
    We were just talking about the notes files yesterday and he asked me if
    there was one on sports and asked if I would put a note in. He was
    curious about the worth of the cards. What other notes were you
    referring to in your message? Point me in the direction and I'll go
    looking...

    Thanks,
    Donna

|  |     Hi Donna,
    Sorry, My keyboard skills arn't at the 8th grade level. I
    wanted to say other noters meaning the people who use this notes
    file. If you want I'll be happy to look at the cards for your father.
    Please give me a call if he wants to do that. I live in Boston
    so they would have to be shipped.
    Mike

|  |     Donna,
          I was looking in my July issue of Tuff Stuff there is an ad on
     page 41 about buying baseball cards. Alan Hager Group Inc. want
     to buy complete and partial sets of the following baseball cards.

    1941 Playball set (72) vg-ex $4000.00  excellent $7000.00
    nrmt-$12500.00

    tel# 203-329-7054

    Those prices are what they are willing to pay not what the set is truly
    worth.

| 289.7 | Don't mail them | EBBCLU::MONDALTO |  | Mon Jul 22 1991 07:27 | 8 |
| | Take them to a Reputable Dealer,don't even think of mailing them,
    they'll probably never get to its destination,for some reason I
    don't trust the postal service,lately all my mail arrives unsealed
    and it looks like it was open at the Post Office.Last week I recieved
    an open tube that was supposed to have a sheet of the starting lineup
    cards that I sent away for,then I had to go to the P/O and complain,it
    did no good.......  John

| | Thanks for your input. I have no intentions on mailing the cards
    anywhere. That's like asking for trouble. Even if these cards are not
    worth as much as someone has stated, it's really not a good idea to
    mail it to anyone; especially someone you don't know from Adam. I
    didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday and my mama didn't raise no
    fool.

    I think my father just wanted a rough idea of what they might
    be worth seeings how they are 50 years old. He is not an avid
    baseball card collector so he was just curious about the worth.
    Thanks for your replies...

    Donna
