I have recently come into possesion of an autographed baseball. I need
some help to learn more about it. I have listed the names of the
players who signed it. I would like to know what team, when signed,
and a geuss at value. This ball is not in excellent shape.
Names:
Mel Ott
Ernie Lombardi
Nap Reyes
Ray Berres ?(cant read well)
Buddy Korn ? "
Joe Medwick
Gus Mancuso
Mickey Wit*ie ?
Johnny Allen
Carl Hubbel ? (very faint)
John Rucker
Bill Jurges
Rube Fischer?
There are other signatures but I cant read them well enough to be
meaningful. There 22 in all.
Any help would be appreciated.

Might be the New York Giants. Don't know what year exactly but I would
guess between 1920-1940.(Nothing like hedging your bets).

Jon-
I looked up some of the names you listed last night in Total Baseball
(I have corrected or placed what I believe to be the correct name below).
I made a small chart of the years these players played for the NY
Giants (since Ott and Hubbell played their entire careers with that team).
If you look at the chart, it seems that this is a 1943 NY Giants team
ball, signed late in the season (since two of the players were traded to
the Giants after the season began, and accumulated near half-season stats).
Of the names you listed, four are HOF'ers: Hubbell, Ott, Lombardi,
and Medwick). None are particularly hard to acquire (ala Gehrig/Ruth),
and there is little demand (read: price/value) for team signed balls
in "poor condition". (Example: I saw another NYG team ball with Ott+ on
it, in "poor condition" go unsold at $85).
The two biggies are condition, and desirability (and condition
plays a big part in desirability). However, if you're ever in the MRO
are (1-3, pole L14), I'd love to look at the ball, if you wouldn't
mind.
Hope this helps. -rjk

| 276.6 | Signed game ball | CXCAD::WILLIAMS | Set the mind free | Thu May 28 1992 10:16 | 31 |
This seems like the place for this note. I, too, have run across
a signed ball that my father had. It is a game ball, but in very
good condition. It was signed by players of the McCook Braves, which
were the farm team of the Milwaukee Braves. The ball is dated
1957. The players are:
Merritt Ranew
Bernie Poripore
Tippy(?) Johnson
Jerry Nausen
John Wilard(?)
Ken Raesler
Paul Schulze
Ty Clayton
Ed Kugyosla
Pete Fisher
Al Gilioni
Orie Wolf
Rog Larrar
Johnny Wilcox
Paul Poog(?)
Bill Steincke
Pinky(?) Carlson
Can anyone help me with this...on identifying the players if they
made it big or if this ball is worth anything at all? Not being a
baseball fan, any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
John
