    I recently bought some tobacco silks depicting collegiate athletes
    in baseball, golf, football, etc.  Colleges represented include
    Syracuse, Pennsylvania, Annapolis, West Point, and others. Only
    the uniforms change, i.e., the baseball pose for West Point is the
    same as the baseball pose for Annapolis.  Uniforms appear to be
    from the twenties or so, but that's just a guess.  Each silk is
    approximately 5 x 7" with brightly colored figure on a white
    background.
    
    I also saw some Turkey Red baseball silks depicting real players
    whose names I didn't recognize. These were maybe 2 x 3" and had
    solid color backgrounds.
    
    Does anybody know anything about these items, when they were
    distributed, how many different ones there were, current value,
    etc.?

	I have some 5 by seven but they are balnket material they go for 10-20 bucks. They are pro baseball players though so I would say yours might be a little less but if you want to know for sure take a photo and send it to one of the hobby papers bbc magazine is good. they can probably tell you for sure. 	Sounds like the 1910 tobbacco premiums from 'Egyptian' & 'Hassan' brand cigarettes. I have many of the other kinds (birds, royalty, butterflys, etc..) Havent had any of the basball characters personnally but other dealers seem to get $5-$15 each. They also where made on felt 2" x 4" depicting various colleges, I have a few of these. Depends on who it is and the condition. I mostly see these at the antique shows I setup at. BTW, the 'other dealers' are antique dealers, not card sharks.. The felts or, blankets are listed in the SCD book... They TOO had 'variations' back then but you dont hear anyone squakin' about those!! I have several of the 7" felts, dealers at card shows have these but they dont move too well. All in all - they dont look too bad matted & framed on the library wall.. -John

	Hi, My mother was cleaning out her celler a few months ago and found two diamond shaped cloth things that appear to be coasters. One of them has Ty Cobb on it and the other has Doyle (can't remember the first name, think its Denny) on it. There were old papers with them that were dated from the early 20's. They are about seven inches long and about six inches wide and are made of thin felt, and they are in color. They are in good shape. The Cobb is in better condition then the Doyle. The coloring on the Doyle is a bit smudged. Are there any knowledgeable sports_memboribilia collectors out there who might have an idea what these would be worth? I don't have a clue! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Wally

	Wally, from your description they sound like what are called "Blankets". They were put in cigarette packs in around 1912 and 1913. People used to sew them together like quilts so to find any that without moth or sewing holes is very good. Players could also come in different colors; these colors also determined the prices. I have not seen a memorabilia price guide recently, but the commons run about $20; Cobb should be a very good price. In later years these "blankets" came out as flags and are pretty common at flea markets. Jared
