I'm currently putting togather the 1963 topps set. When I finish
it I'm not sure how I should store it. I don't want to just put
it in a normal box that are made for the sets. I put my recent sets
in those boxes but I don't want to risk damaging the expensive cards
like the Rose rookie or the Mantle card. I was thinking of putting them
in a book with the plastic sheets but the sheets get old and crack
sometimes. How do you people who collect older year sets store them?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wally

But take the food out and wash the container first! Tony, did you ever
get the spaghetti sauce off the '64 Topps set?

I started a 63' Topps set awhile back too. I keep it in the 9-card
pages in a large binder which I shelf flat (if you leave them standing
like a normal binder-the pages tend to buckle after awhile). I keep
the other sets from 52' to 89' the same way. Someday I'll probably
move them to individual pockets - unless they come out with Mylar
9/8-card pages.
The Rose/Mantle/Stargell are there too... Waiting 2 years for the Rose
paid off... I got it at the last BG show,I was there right when they
opened, a guy had one in a binder mixed with other cards for $200/EX+
cond (no, not the california repro's either!) when every other crook
had them for $415(lowest I saw) to $600.00. Same guy also had #200/EX
for $145(!).. I still had room for another 2" of commons. That guy must
have moved most of his stock-but those where the only 2 cards he had I
''wanted''

I would like to know what the best way is to store a very expensive
card. Should you use hard plastic? Is there a plastic sheet, Mylar,
that you place the card in first. I heard over time the plastic gives
off an oil substance which ruins the cards. I would hate to ruin a
$1000 investment by not taking the proper procedures in sealing up the
card. Any suggestions on what the best procedure is to handle these
expensive gems?
