To be quite honest, I have not played Baseball Stars yet. I have
only had my NES for 6 months. The first game I played was R.B.I.
Since I was satisfied with it, I haven't really tried any other
baseball games except for 1,000, and bases loaded. Since those two
were let-downs, I have just stuck with the game I know best. I will,
however, try to rent it soon.

         "Anyone else?"

| | More on RBI II

We bought RBI II about a month ago

I've played some of the others - and it is number one.

One note is that the attributes of each player are governed by his
stat's last year (batting ave, his "speed" on the bases, etc).

You can play a best out of seven series against someone else or a
league series against it (one game against each team). It will
give you a code at the end each game - that way you can write it
down - shut it off and continue the series at a later time.

When you are playing a series it keeps track of your starting pitchers
    - it controls it so you cannot use the same starting pitcher in
consecutive games (you have to wait one game.....).

    Another.... What a pitcher can/can't do is dependent on who they are;
speed of fast ball, the extent of the curve, if they throw sliders,
etc. Overall they are governed by their 1989 ave RBI.

On fielding - if needed, you can make diving or jumping catches.

| | On RBI II, one thing that I thought was amusing was the news line at
the end of each series game. I happened to play the A's vs the Giants.
After completing the 3rd game, the stats were displayed and under that
    was the newsline that read:
    Earthquake rattles Bay Area.
Since I was at that game, I got quite a chuckle out of it.

It certainly does stink!! Has anybody played R.B.I
Baseball II? I think it is one of the best baseball games that
Nintendo has. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 9.

It features every M.L.B. team, including an NL and AL All-Star
team. Every player's stats are real; if I recall correctly.

Instant Replays are shown after a spectacular play, and after every
home run;displaying the distance as well.(The good news is that it
is optional, in case you get tired of I.R.)

One particular feature that I like is a "diving" button. it makes the
    plays more challenging.

All in all, I would recommend that you add this game to your
library. Finding it is the hard part. If you have tried this game,
drop a note and share your opinion.

Hmmm... this sounds good. However, as an avid Baseball Stars fan,
I am quite interested in hearing how anyone who has played both would
compare the two. Stars has been the game of choice for quite a while,
maybe it's time has come to move over??? Please let us know !!!

| | Didn't know if anyone else has run into this........

If you're in the one player "mode" in the same leauge - example, you
picked American teams for both yourself and "it", your series,
will be against every team in the American league conf including the
    All Star team.

IF you beat all Teams WITHOUT a loss - you play it's own team. The
team members appear to be named after folks who are directly associated
with the game/the company, etc. (I now have the code for an "un beaten"
Oakland, which will put you against it, if anyone wants it...).

All it's team members have averages above 300. 360 is not unusual
They hit homeruns.... some players "hit" over 50 last year... All
must be rated 25 on their running speed (they make Rickey Henderson
    look like a turtle).

On the pitchers, they can throw over 110mph.....

I don't know if anyone has beaten it yet.

It will let me take and keep the lead until the last couple of innings
    - and then clobbers me.....

I rented this game a week or so ago and enjoyed it. It was fun playing
with real teams and stats from last year like was mentioned earlier..
It had some fun features like the instant replay, full rosters to
choose players from and the diving and jumping aspects that were
mentioned already. What I didn't like about it was the teams uniforms
aren't the same as real time and even though it's no big deal it just
seems strange that if they go with the correct player stats then why
not the uniforms.. The handling of the diving and jumping of the player
dosen't work as well as it does in Baseball Stars I feel. It seemed to
me that when the ball was in the air the player jumped and when the
ball as on the ground the player dove..For example if your third
baseman tried diving for a pop up in foul territory, he would jump up
for the ball instead of dive for it (like he would in BBS)..

I think this is a very good game and is alot of fun but in my opinion
if you can only have one baseball game, it is Baseball Stars for me..

| 516.12 | somewhat dissapointed | POBOX::BAYLESS | David Bayless | Thu Oct 25 1990 12:19 | 13 |
| | I recently purchased the cartridge and was a little disappointed with
the graphics and how competitive the computer was. In the Baseball
Stars it took quite a few games to beat the computer, it was a real
challenge. In this game it was quite easy to beat all the teams, I
throw pitches right down the middle just to make it
interesting. I have not gotten to the team made up of the developers,
that could be an interesting aspect of the game. Some of the baseball
plays are a little crude for example; the computer will always throw
back to second base on a pop fly with someone on third , usually
allowing the runner to score easy. Another would be that the computer
never throws back to the base, so a runner can always go back to the
base he just came from without being tagged out.

| 516.13 | spoiler for beating the developers team | POBOX::BAYLESS | David Bayless | Tue Nov 06 1990 12:17 | 9 |
| | I have beaten the developers team with the Oakland A's and the St.
Louis Cardinals. The way to beat the team is use your best right hand
pitcher and position him on the left hand side of the rubber (your
left) and throw strikes across the plate to the very right-hand corner of
the plate (your right). When they start to hit this pitcher in the
fourth or fifth inning, you bring in your second best right hand
starter. The starters have more stamina to get you through the 9
innings. I usually end up with 22 strikeouts and beat the computer
    team every-time.
