I wanted to drop a quick note to update those interested re: the group
purchase I coordinated. We received our first shipment (22 cartridges). Some of
the prices dropped from the original list, a couple went up a little. The
shared shipping charge came to .52 per cartridge. The average price was around
$30 with $2 added for tax/shipping. The range was from $14 (Friday the 13th) to
$44 (Ironsword). It was a good deal of work but a great learning experience.
We are waiting for our second shipment to go out (from the distributor) this
week (or early next week) with TMNT, Black Bass, Batman, and RoboCop. Black
Bass and Batman are the biggies (Batman is just about O/S). These total another
13 (and growing) to bring us up to 35 game packs. My kids eyes just about fell
out when the first batch arrived. I don't think it would be fair to let them
see the Batman games when they come in. How much can a kid take anyway.
The titles below are what this distributor has or expects in at any time. If
anyone wants to be added to the list (local to southern NH, northeastern Ma, or
travelling here soon) let me know soon. The order is being held until the
distributor's product arrives. They've been notified that it is in transit (the
game pack's in the mail).

I've deleted the original note to clean up after myself. I'm still having
trouble finding SMB III. I was close a couple of times but no cigar. That will
be the ultimate challenge.
Take it easy,
Terry

Here's the latest in our escapades to save a couple of bucks. My quick guess is
that we're saving an average of about $8-$10 per game pack, given the prices
I'm seeing in the bigger retail chains. Some a little less, some a little more.
We've made two purchases so far. Each purchase was made up of 15 people's
requests. One of the real critical factors I took care in planning was to make
sure that there was no impact to DEC working hours (obviously). We've been able
to limit our game deliveries to lunchtimes, on the way into work, or on the way
home from work. Other than a few mail messages with people's requests,
everything else is done at home (again, obviously).
I'm trying to be careful not to dump too much stuff in the notes file (mainly
because not everyone is interested in this and list-type information takes up
space quickly) so I've compiled an interest list that I use to send out a price
list or other information about new game releases and tidbits that the
distributors pass on. Right now, I'm keeping my eye out for the Fisher Price
titles that have just hit the shelves in Kaybee (since I have a 4-year old and
the educational titles are few and far between). When the distributors get
them, they'll call my wife at home and she'll call me. When the information
comes in, I'll shoot a message off to everyone on the list. If anyone is
interested in being added to the list, let me know at ASDS::WILLETT. I also
periodically pass the interest list on so those on the list can see if they
know others on the list. This way people sometimes pick up game packs for
others for all around convenience.
All three of my children have birthdays coming up (late April and May) and I
may put in another order in the next couple of weeks, if there is enough
interest from others to make the order worthwile (there is a minimum shipping
charge along with a C.O.D. charge that we all divide equally). The tax is what
really stinks. If I lived in N.H. we could save another $1.00-$2.00 per game
pack.
Below is the outcome of what we've purchased to date. Add 5% tax and about .50
for shipping (shipping was .52 on the first order and .45 on the second) in
order to calculate the total cost (anywhere from $1.50-$2.50 per game).
