| 286.1 | Guardian of what? | CXCAD::SOMERS |  | Fri Jul 21 1989 11:33 | 5 |
| | Could you describe this game? Is it an adventure game like Link
or a shoot-em-up game? I looked at the back of the box, but I
couldn't get a feel for what it was like.

                                                  Thanks, Eric.

| 286.2 | What it is... | SAHQ::SCHULTZ | Orcas & Dolphins: Humans of the Sea | Fri Jul 21 1989 12:38 | 22 |
| | This is a blow-your-socks-off shoot'em up game. You are a hero
from the plannet Earth which has flown to this sinister looking
world which just happens to be on an collision course with your
home plannet (hence, your reason for being here). You find a once
beautiful world who's population has fled or been destroyed by the
monsters which now control the world. They however hid their most
powerful weapons and supplies from the monsters in the corridors
of the plannet. You have to destroy the monsters which inhabit
the plannet before they infest the Earth.

This is the general jist of the game. You, (the character that
has been sent to investigate and destroy the approaching menace)
will become the Guardian Legend if you are successful. As I mentioned
in the first note, this game has some extrodanary graphics and the
best object movement without flicker or slow down that I have seen
in a home video game (dozens of nasties moving and comming at you!)

Rating at least an 8.5 to 9 (scale of 1-10). It is quite addictive
and worth at least a rental try whether you are into shoot'em games
    or not!

    re -.1

I agree, I rented this game this past weekend and thought that the
graphics were great, and the game story was very good.

I also like the fact that the game presented a "mixed" main characture
when you are in the planet you are a figure, and when you enter
the corridors you turn into a space ship.

Also, the game has alot of different wepons, and keys are needed
to enter certain sections of the map.

    Good game, 8+.

| 286.4 | Any advice on Corridor 3 ? | MOOV01::BENOIT |  | Wed Sep 27 1989 12:00 | 19 |
| | I've been playing this game for a few weeks and I think it's great!
    Lots of action AND strategy.

I haven't been able to get to the end of Corridor 3 and could use
    some advice.

    <possible spoiler follows>

I get to the monster at the end of Corridor 3 with full energy (level
    12) and power chips (400), but I get wiped out pretty quickly. Can't
seem to totally avoid the "rails" and "bubbles." I've used the Enemy
Eraser to destroy the "bubbles" after they make it very difficult to
maneuver. Unfortunately none of them turn into hearts or chips to
restore energy. Does anyway know of a way to shoot the "bubbles"?

I also had trouble with Corridor 3 at first......the trick was to

I am now at Corridor 21! Chip power is at 4000 and weapons are at
    	Power 3.

    	After sealing 20 and entering 21: <somewhat_of_a_spoiler>

You fly down and fight 5 or 6 of the boss characters from previous
seals but not at the strength they were when you first met up
with'm. After beating the boss character of Seal 21....you are
shown flying away from the planet as it blows up....And you think
    	it's over, but it's not!!!!

You meet up with another boss character, and am I having a time

Anyone out there still playing "Guardian"?

I was finally able to close up Corridor 3!! and closed up
several other corridors as well. Now I'm stuck again at
    Corridor 9!

This is the corridor in the upper left corner of the planet.

Occasionally I can make it to the monster at the end of the
corridor by using all my Enemy Erasers. But I can't seem to
make a dent in the monster. He's the one who spits out
skeleton heads that home in on you, and bars that trash your
    power level.

Any hints on how to do this beast in would be greatly
    appreciated.

To defeat the BEM (bug eyed monster) in corridor 9,

This note is for the discussion of The Guardian Ledgin.
I got this game for Christmas and it is great. It has a password
frature which is indespensable. There 20 corridors that you have to
work your way thru and dispatch of the creatures in each one in
corridors 1-10 you pick up keys to let you into other areas of the
world where you find the corridors. It is a bit like zelda in that
a map might help you out. The graphics are great and the action is fast
and furrious. on a scale of 1-10 this would have to be a 9 to 9 1/2
I snuck it before Christmas and am now working my thru the tenth and
twentyth corrodors. hopefully tonight I will save the world.

    >>>>How do you kill the scorpion-thing at the end of corridor 2?

The scorpion thing is called a Crawdaddy. The claws block your
forward firing weapons. Shoot the claws that it throws at you
to get power chips to recharge your damage. (I think)

By this time you should have Fireballs so you can burn right
through the BEM. (Bug Eyed Monster)

    >>>>I've gotten to the end of Corridor 11 and 12 and can't kill those
    >>>>things either? Am I supposed to go from Corr 1 to 2 to 3, etc
    >>>>or can I kill of 11 and 12 first?

You do not have to go in sequence, although it is easier. Nuke the
BEM in Corridor 11 first. The BEM in Corridor 12 is VERY NASTY.
It spits out strings that nuke your power level. Just wait till
you meet the red version of this guy in Corridor 3. . . .

    >>>>After closing Corr 1, I explored all the new territory and ran
    >>>>into 2 blue crabs in 2 different areas. Believe it or not, I
    >>>>can't kill them either. Do they have something I need before I
    >>>>go in Corr 2, 11, or 12?

Yes. Yes. Yes. There should be 2 monsters that have to be killed
each ares of the surface complex. In your case you are facing two
blue crabs and two round crab things. The Blue crabs can be killed
by getting next to them and stabbing them w/ your cutter laser.
Each of these monsters has a VERY useful item you need. These
types of monsters are present in the rooms where the alarms go off
and green pyramids appear cutting off your escape. I usually call
these rooms challenge rooms for lack of a better term.

We (the house) got Guardian Legend for X-mas and I think it's GREAT!!!
My husband is as hooked with this as he was with Zelda. Can't seem to
get into Adventures of LINK though. Any other simular games worth
    trying?

Anyway, I spend more time watching than playing. I don't seem to have
the hand-eye coordination my husband and son do. So I do the maping out
and keep track of stuff for them. Then I play when no ones around so I
don't have to hear " Oh that's easy, you want me to kill it for you?".

I do have a spoiler for you all. I haven't seen much in this file
regarding the ENEMY ERASER. You get 20 of them somewhere after the
second key. However, we have figured out how to replenish them and even
    get more. Spoiler to follow........

.......go to one of the spider that multiplies and start fireing. Don't
ever kill them all off or leave the room. Just keep fireing. Hearts, blue
and red balls will show up, and you can pick these up as you need them,
but eventually, an ENEMY ERASER will appear. This will give you twenty
    of them.

    Another SPOILER.............

.......after you get twenty, just keep fireing at the spiders. You can
continue this for as many ENEMY ERASERS as you want. THIS TAKES TIME
but does a great job of racking up the points, which works in your
favor also. I have collected as many as 120 ENEMY ERASERS aftering
entering the room. If you leave the room, you just have to start
killing the spiders all over again.

    Have fun.

There is no real spoiler on beating the guy in Corridor #3. It takes
lots of practice. Somebody did mention that you could fly in a figure
eight, but that did not really help me beat that monster.

Also, you should buy the weapons that are for sale. IF you do so, you
get upgrades for your existing weapons. There are three levels of
power for each weapon that you have. Of course the stronger the
weapon, the more power chips it takes to run it.

Sometimes there is duplication, but it is very limited. Also,
there are three power levels for each weapon system that you can use.
You can see this on your status board. The first time you get a
weapon, the border is blue, then green for the next upgrade, and
finally red for max power. (I am not too sure about the order for this
though.) Also the effects of the upgrades are quite spectacular.

I kick it, shoot it for a full 5 minutes, move the guy down to the corner of

all to no avail.
I finished this game once awhile back and sure don't recall having any problem

I got the method for opening #8 up wrong. You are supposed to
set your weapon to "no use" and fire. Sorry about that.

<To kill the guy in #8>

Use Fireballs. Try to stay to the side of him when he moves around
and attempt to have your shots coincide with his retreats.

This monster moves in a horizontal figure 8. When he is pulling
away from you, fire a fireball and this will stay on him longer and
    do more damage.

Fire your fireball and walk on top of it as it moves
across the room. The monster jumps all over you and
it takes lots of damage. Keep firing at all times to
kill the little rocks. You can get an upgrade for
the fireball in the next section of the corridors.

I recently got this game and I really like it! The graphics
are better than average, and your "mission" is interesting
and challenging. The game is a good blend of shooting things
(arcade-type action?) and adventure, leaning towards shooting.
Through your exploring (and wasting things) you can accumulate
a fairly large and varied arsenal of weapons (among other
items, such as keys), certain ones working better on certain
adversaries. When I first started playing, I thought I was
going to go blind after awhile, but fortunately only the very
beginning was that "high-speed approach". :-)

The password "TGL" lets you run through all the corridor scenes in

you cannot kill off the easier monsters before you do the harder ones.

I used the two way laser. This lets you hit the stuff that comes
in from the side. Also you will have to switch from that to the
enemy erasers and fireballs from time to time. You have to be very
quick just because of the sheer volume of bad guys.

With the challenge rooms, which ones are you talking about? The only
room that I have problems is the one with the dinosaur head that flies
around in it. (To beat that one, use fireballs and aim real well.)

    Bigger hint behind FF.

See what happens when you fly through the arms.

Huge spoiler for the last BEM

Do you want to read this. . . .

The best way to kill this guy is to fly right in front of his mouth and
use fireballs. The reason is that if you hit his body you will take
damage. This also applies to his hands. *HOWEVER*, you can fly through
the arms and not get hurt.

The closer you are to it, the higher your rate of fire and the quicker
it will die. Ad it takes more damage, it will turn yellow and then
red. Once it is red, it should die soon. (However you are usually
close to death at this time too.)

                         / /\----/\ \

                        +----+ +----+

Obviously when the hands are retracted, don't hang around. Also, you
have to be able to react quickly because it does move from side to side.

and B to TURBO, and slashed my way to the surface of the planet. I
have closed corridors 1,2,11, and 12 now and have figured out that
I need to fight all the monsters that appear in rooms after you are
sealed in by green blocks. (I was dodging them at first) There is
one thing that isn't a crab that is giving me fits. It looks like
a green flying eyeball. Every time I get sealed in the room with
this guy he wastes me fast. The blue crabs are hard but beatable,
this guy appears indestructable (I sure he is not though !! )
Any tips on wasting this thing would be appreciated.

    with slow reflexes !! 8^)
