| | Being a boxing fan, I purchased Punch Out the other day for the
kids and myself. The other night I thought I would just check
and make sure the game was alright, (really!) so I sat down with
a well prepared glass of Johnny Walker Red.

Now this game come on with a big guy twice the size of your boxer
and expect you to beat up on this dud. Well after getting my butt
kick around several time, me and my JWR (scotch) decided we had
    enough of this #&*!@.
I started jabbing with this guy, sticking and bouncing from side
to side and punching this dud in the face until I hooked him and
knock him out. I felt pretty good about that until I ran into the
second boxer. He looks a lot like John L. Sullivan. I punched
around with this guy until I got nearly drunk. I found myself
actually cussing at tippy toes. I couldn't waiting util the next
round started so I could get back in there and punch his lights
    out.

I had to put the game back in the wrapping before my wife came in
from work at 12 0'clock am. When she came in, I could not hold
it back from telling her how I enjoyed this game. By this time
my speech was pretty impaired but at least I'm not out there in
    the street drinking and driving.

I can't wait until XMAS to so I came kick the second boxers butt.
I think the game is pretty neat for someone who like boxing
and for those who just plain like the Nintendo games.

    Have a good one,

| | I told my wife that I wanted punch out for christmas. She, being
a good wife got it for me (only after I found out what day the
store was going to get a new shipment). She wrapped it out and
put it under the tree. I then went crazy, I thought she was
going to just give it to me. After about 5 days of suffering,
having top gun made it a little easier, I told her that I wanted
to open it. It cost me letting her open 3, but I got to play
the game. It is a lot of fun. (if you think that the second
boxer is ruff, wait until the 4th or 5th). I am currently stuck
with a boxer who can run around the ring fast than you can see
him. Every boxer is different and has a different weakness.
I love king hippo, he seems tuff at first, but when you know
his weakness he is easy to defeat. I would rate the game a 8-9.
I am having a lot of fun.

Watch his eyes. He will punch 3 times. Dodge them. Then he will

The best way to knock him down is when he is comming in Jab the
*&^%^&* out of you. Timed right and he is down. (use a body blow,
not a head blow for that.)

About that invisable guy, I asume you are refering to the indian
guy, he sort of turns invisable when he does his 'move'.
The best way to get him is to just block (pull down) when he is
coming in. Keep doing this until he is stopped, he should look stunned.
So, just do like Doc says, "Hit him while he's stunned". An uppercut
    should do the job.

| 33.37 |  | CURIE::DECARTERET | A res of 56,000 x 50,000 please. | Wed Mar 30 1988 21:20 | 29 |
| | Tonight I decided to break out the old cartridge and to my surprise,
I went through all the guys with no problem. The only problem I
had was beating Sandman. This guy is TOUGH!! If you ask me, he
is the toughest guy. So after I beat him I went to Tyson, and beat
him with a TKO. Just for some general tips.....

Mike first comes out with his super punches, the ones which
if he hits you once, your down. I'm not sure of the exact number
of these, but it's about 10. With these punches, all you do is
dodge them, and come back with two shots to the head on each one.
His second step is the quick left and rights. You can tell
which hand he is going to hit with, because he blinks the corresponding
eye before he punches. After you dodge each one of these, come
back with two shots to the head.
Occasionally he blinks like he does with his opening super punches,
but don't worry, if he hits you with these it only takes a little
bit off. Just dodge this and hit him in the face with about 6 punches.
He also occasionally does a kind of Soda Popinski step (the one
where he dances and then starts with the left and rights). To see
this, all you do is wait till he blinks both his eyes. Block 4
of them and then give him 2-6 hits in the head.
I don't think that I am giving away a lot with these tips, because
it depends on the person to supply the speed and skill.

    				HAPPY TYSON!!!

| 33.39 | Piston Honda #2 KOed with one punch?!! | GIAENG::ELSBREE |  | Thu Aug 04 1988 19:37 | 58 |
| | It seems strange that Piston Honda #2 (that is to say, the Piston
Honda fighting in the world circuit) could be knocked out with only
one punch, but it is possible. It all began quite accidentally
when I discovered a way to knock down Piston Honda #1 with one punch.
I figured that I might be able to do the same with Piston Honda #2,
but what I got was even better (a KO).

I don't guarantee this punch will work every time (occasionally
I have gotten only an upper-cut for my efforts) but here is how
    to do it.

First of all, Piston Honda #1:
When PH (Piston Honda) jumps back and bounces around the ring, he
will soon come forward to unlease a flurry of punches. The moment
PH comes toward you throw a punch to the face and he will fall down.
This is only approximately when you should throw the punch; exact
    timing is essential.

Now, to KO PH #2 with one punch:
At about 1 minute (their time) into the round, PH #2 will jump back
like PH #1, but he does not bounce around the ring as PH #1 does.
This allows less time to prepare for the tricky manuever. As PH #2
comes back toward you (timing approximate) a body blow usually does
the trick. If it fails, and you only get an upper-cut or get punched
or whatever else may go wrong, be prepared to block a few punches.
I wonder if any other fighters can be KOed with one punch?

    CE

Are there any long term players out there? By that I mean players
that have had this game for over six months and still play.

Keep after him Jim. I finally beat Tyson (by decision) the other
night after losing oh about... 300 fights to him.

Re: -.1 I've had the game over 6 months and still enjoy it.
After playing it initially and getting up to Tyson, I put it
away to get on with the summer. Last month I decided it was
time to KO Kid Dynamite. The kids love the game too. For info
on number of fighters and comments on their fighting patterns,

After round one I can pretty much stay with him. The only problem
is, I haven't made it through round one without getting knocked
    down at least once.

    I'll get him yet.

I'm amazed that you got as far as you did. I read a book about

Or was it the other way around?

of the third round. Most of the fighters he knocks out in the second.

I also have three other sons who can't get past Super Macho Man.
Personally, I can't get past the secound Piston Honda. I know the

| | CONGRATS!!! To myself. I finally beat Tyson. The real trick, if it can
even be called a trick, is to not get knocked down in the first round.

I managed to stay up through the whole first round, which isn't tough
once he's done throwing "dynamite punches". I knocked him down once in
round 2, and he got me once. But, I was only one punch from knocking
him down a second time in round 2 when time ran out.

So, in round three, I knocked him down at th 8 second mark. Then got
him again at somewhere around 1:40. Then he switched to the jab and
nailed me. Finally, I stunned him and hit him with an uppercut at
    2:50 of the third round.

The end is kind of beat. Mike congratulates you, but there's not much
    fanfare.

Also, it didn't give me a new number after I won. I figured I'd be
champ and get challenged or something like the arcade version. Oh
    well....at least I beat him.

Wait for Hippo to open his mouth and HIT him!, then you have to
hit him in his belly button. You'll need to do this acouple of times

Roy is correct about simply dodging him...but, there is an additional
way to cause damage. You know how at the start of the fight he'll throw
a punch that's sort of like a right cross (or left cross). When he is
about to throw that, you can pop him in the face and you'll get a star.
You can do it three times in a row, then when he ducks down to throw
the uppercut, dodge him, hit him once in the head, then throw the big
uppercut. I've beaten him in the first round by doing this.

| | No real pointers, but all you have to do is dodge his punches and throw
rights and lefts to the face.

I don't always knock him out, but I never lose to him. If you can keep
from getting knocked down, you can decision him. As far as I can tell,
there aren't any right-left combo tricks like in the first meeting with
    him.

Just dodge his punches and keep hitting him
