| 22.1 | well - a four year old likes it | CADSYS::DIPACE | Alice DiPace | Sun Nov 15 1987 23:00 | 19 |

My not-quite-4 year old loves duck hunt and is even getting pretty
good at it. He can now get through level 1 of super mario brothers
(without getting all the extra's) because his older brother and
sister have been coaching him. He also does alright on excite bike.
He obviously does know if he's won or lost and our biggest problem
is keeping him from pulling the cartidges out while the game is on.
I haven't seen a lot of games aimed at his age group nor have I seen
ghost busters. But then he has older siblings he would rather copy
and that makes a difference.
I will say, he destroyed the atari and coleco-vision controllers
in one day, but the nintendo controllers are still hanging in there,
even when I think they should have broken.
Hope this helps
Alice

| | My just 4 year old finally built up enough courage to give it a
    try and he loves it. He has made it past screen 1 in Super Mario
    Brothers and has almost made it thru screen 2. I borrowed the Pinball
    cartridge from a friend and he keeps asking for it. He has the
    high score in the family. 95k and 93350 compared to dad's 73k.
    The games aren't really geared towards the age group but just ry
    to keep them away. As long as you get games that don't use a massive
    assortment of key functions and don't require quick reflex action
    you'ld be all set. BTW, even if the child doesn't like it YOU will.

    Hope this helps too,

    Steve

| 22.3 | OK for my 5 year old.... | MPGS::LAVNER | Top Gun | Fri Nov 20 1987 08:02 | 8 |
| | I have a five year old who loves NES. He can play Zelda with
    no problems except he can't read all the words when he goes to buy
    weapons. He understands the game much better than I do. He's like
    Rambo with Duck Hunt and Hogans Alley. I think that most kids that
    age just have fun playing.

| | You might try Buble-Bobble ... You can play together with your child
    and this might be a little less intimidating

| | Could you please describe this 'Buble-Bobble' in a little more detail,

    I too, have found most of the games intimidating to my kids and
    am looking for a game that would be better suited for the 4-8
    year old age group...

    your mentioning of 'Buble-Bobble' caught my curiosity...

    Thanks...

| 22.6 | Pinball | SCRIBE::POLLOCK | Programmers expect the unexpected! | Fri Jan 13 1989 13:48 | 11 |
| | Another game is Pinball. It is very simple to play and is almost
    like the arcade pinball machines except for a couple of differences;
    namely you cannot 'tilt' the machine and there is a bonus round
    where Mario tries to rescue the princess.

    This game is enjoyed by my whole family. It's a little difficult
    to find, but I have seen it at Toys 'R Us in Manchester (not recently
    though, but you could give them a call).

    Try Mappy Land...

    My 4 yr old daughter quickly becomes frustrated when she sees her
    older brother whizzing through SMP, AI, DD, etc. She loves ML
    because she can pick what level/area to start in, and the control
    of the character is easy and straight forward.

    The music is v good, colors and graphics are just what a kid would
    love - a well thought out game for youngsters.

    Oh, a second vote for Bubble Bobble - game allows simultaneous play
    for 2 players.
