I am now specifically looking for advanced high school math material; things like "Higher Algebra", by Hall and Knight or "Continued Fractions", by C.D.Olds, but also like to "browse" for other interesting reading. Does anyone have any suggestions of bookstores with a good selection in the the Eastern Mass. or N.H. area? I've tried the MIT Coop but their selection is mostly more advanced. Alternatively, has anyone found a mail order house with a good selection in a catalogue? Thanks, Bob

Bob,
There is well organized professional society called the
Mathematical Association of America (MAA)
which caters more to problems which can be attacked by elementary means as
opposed to learning machinery require years of study. They have a number of
publications the most well-known being the
The American Mathematical Monthy
This is (you guessed it) a monthly magazine containing very well written
expository articles, elementary and more advanced problems with previous
months solution. Within the last year, a number of interesting articles
have appeared where the computer was a used a tool in discovering theorems
in number theory. There are also 2 other magazines
Mathematics Magazine
The College Mathmatics Journal
Finally, the also sell a number of other mail order publications of which
"Continued Fractions", by C.D.Olds is one.
