| MATLAB is an interactive front-end to the linpack subroutine library.
It was written by the same person (Chris Mohler is close to the
persons name) who wrote most of the linpack library. Sorry, I don't
know where you can find it. If you do find it could you let me
know?

| Hi,
I'm really the one looking for MATLAB. Mike submited the original
note for me since I didn't know of this notes conference until now.
I've been mailing all over the ENET trying to find this supposedly
popular package. Yes, I know about LINPACK, EISPACK, and MATRIXx.
I need MATLAB to be compatible with the rest of the people in a
college course that I'm taking. Plus, MATLAB is a nice thing to
have around since it is interactive (as was just mentioned in the
previous reply) and it been around long enough to not cost anything.
I've been told it's out there somewhere, so I'll just keep on
searching. Keep your eyes open and thanks for responding.

can be purchased from Mitchell & Gauthier Associates, Corcord, MA.

obtaining a public domain Fortran version of Matlab.

I thought the infamous package for the -10 was named MAThLAB, not MATLAB.
If so, I wouldn't expect it to be exclusively a matrix package. I never
used MATHLAB, so I couldn't really say, myself.
Unfortunately, the law department's trademark VTX database is down at the
moment, otherwise I'd check the hypothesis that Digital owns the trademark
"MATHLAB".

| How about LIBMAT, it is also a Matrix package and I guess you can
write some routiners to plug it in to your packages.
I guess it is available in TOOLSHED, if not mail me for a copy.

MAT.FOR source code for MATLAB subroutine 3850 lines
LIB.FOR source library 3339 lines
SYS_UNIX.FOR Unix system-dependent code 900 lines
SYS_VMS.FOR VMS system-dependent code 260 lines
MATLAB.DOC full manual in original form 3960 lines
HELP.LIS essential, help text (place in directory $MATLAB)
DEMO. eigenvalue sensitivity example 21 lines
MATZ.FOR MATZ 100 lines
MATLAB.NROFF NROFF input for manual 3250 lines
MAT.SNGL single precision MATLAB subroutine 3850 lines
LIB.SNGL single precision library source 3339 lines
MATLAB.EXE executable (VMS) file
The documentation (MATLAB.DOC) should be PRINTed using the
/NOFEED qualifier. ***NOTE*** the logical name $MATLAB MUST
be defined as the directory where HELP.LIS may be found.
(the program will crash if $MATLAB is not defined).
In summary, to get a working (no source) version of MATLAB, use
the following:
1. Copy (using SPOOL) the executable (MATLAB.EXE) and the help
file (HELP.LIS) from PARITY::USER$04:[MUTH.MATLAB.VMS]
2. DEFINE the logical name $MATLAB to be the directory where
HELP.LIS is located.
3. Run!
