Hi again. Question about skin. I started off at 100 pounds
overweight, and am taking off about 10 pounds a month. My daily
exercise is walking 1-2 miles during lunch and occasionally a workout
tape. People that have had 200 pounds or more and lose all the
weight have excess skin or skin that looks funny (sometimes)
Guess I want to know if anyone knows if I'm doing enough exercise to
keep my skin in good shape. I'm 27, and my doctor says I have good
skin-whatever that means. But I do have a few small stretch marks on
the back of my arms, and a couple on my tummy.
I'm just concerned. I'm finally losing the weight at a slow enough
pace to be healthful, and want to be really happy with the results when
I get through. Anyone who's experienced this or has an opinion is
welcome.
Thanks!
Donna

Hi...
I go to Weight Watchers, and they say that having 2 glasses of skim
milk, helps with the elasticity in your skin, and prevents stretch
marks on your skin. I also heard that vitamin E rubbed on your skin
helps also.

At 27 years old, your skin should retract within 6 months.
If not, see a dermatologist.
People over 40 have less elasticity and may need surgery to
remove the extra skin.

Donna, If you are eating a sensible diet (fruit, grains, protein and
veggies) and walking about 30 min at least 3 times a week, then you
should have no problem.
Did you know that walking takes off the fat from head to toe? I'm told
it's the very best exercise (as long as it's brisk and aerobic) that we
can do for ourselves.
How much have you lost? Keep up the good work.

Donna,
I know from experience that losing weight does not mean that you will
be stuck with skin which gives away your "secret" (i.e. that you
weren't always trim and in shape)
I am 80 pounds thinner than my heaviest point of 220 pounds and I have
lost and gained lots of weight over the past two decades. The one
thing I was always careful about was drinking milk (skim of late, but I
am embarassed to admit that until 3 years ago I drank WHOLE milk, even
when dieting).
I started exercising two years ago, light aerobics and about 30 minutes
a day of toning (mostly crunches and leg work).
Amazing though it sounds, I have been able to keep my skin in great
condition, no one would ever suspect that this 36-year-old-skin was
once stretched to accommodate 80 additional pounds.
Walking is great and losing weight slowly will protect your skin from
harm. You are so smart to think of this now and to take proper
precautions. I'm living proof that that will pay off.
Sylvia
P.S. Anyone close enough to me to get to see me naked will notice a
couple of stubborn stretch marks which didn't respond to vitamin E,
milk and exercise, but then, anyone who gets close enough to see me
naked ALREADY KNOWS that I'm not perfect!
