    I use the Karft Fat Free.  I believe it is sugar free, fat free, and etc.
    They have a ranch type which is creamy and other like italian, they are 
    very good. Check it out!

|  | Kraft Fat Free is actually LOADED with sugar.
Anyway, I use commercial dressings all the time, but it is expensive
and boring, which was why I was looking for recipes to make dressing
myself.

|  |     Lately I've had a hankering for balsamic vinegar dressings.
    
    I mix about 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1 Tbsp olive oil (I use 
    100% virgin, cold pressed oil to get maximum flavor per calorie),
    and various spices as I feel like it (oregano, garlic, etc). I
    also cut the vinegar with water and sometimes with a little wine
    vinegar as a good strong balsamic's taste can be overpowering.
    
    It's not non-fat, but that much dressing will fix about 4 or 
    5 salads for about 100 calories. And it's tasty, fast and cheap.

|  |     Best in what sense?
    
    Some are fat-free, some are simply reduced fat.  A quick look at the
    label will determine which are which.
    
    Most of the reduced fat ones are cholesterol and saturated fat free,
    and run 20-30 calories a Tablespoon.  I count two Tablespoons as 1 Fat
    in my meal program.  (My favorites are Cains Light-Hearted Creamy
    Cucumber Dill, Walden Farms Blue Cheese and Featherweight Creamy
    Dijon.)
    
    Most of the fat-free ones run about 5-25 calories/Tbs.  (My favorites
    are Weight Watchers Caeser and Pritikin Italian.)
    
    Most of them have lots of chemicals and other icky stuff, in addition to
    things some people want to avoid such as sugar and gelatin. 
    
    BTW, random tip: standard 35mm film cannisters hold just about 2 Tbs. 
    When I pack salads for lunch, I measure my dressings in to one of those
    and then add it to the salad when I am ready to eat.  I hate how
    dressing makes a salad soggy if you put it on ahead of time.
    
    Another random tip: for those who avoid sugar, like myself, Pritikin
    makes a "Sweet and Spicy French Style" (or something like that)
    dressing made with fruit juice and no fat which tastes remarkable like
    Barbeque sauce!!  Especially if you add a little pepper and
    Tobasco...mmmm!

|  |     I bought some Balsamic vinegar a little while ago, and it is the
    *greatest* thing ever!  I find that if I dress a salad with balsamic
    vinegar and just a few drops of a good olive oil, it is *wonderful*.
    It is also a good way to make tuna salad - water-packed tuna and just
    the vinegar.  It is expensive but really worth it.  Besides, you don't
    use all that much...

	I picked up some Marie's low fat Creamy Parmesan last week.  It's
	still 50% fat, but that can be worked into my plan.

    Here's a recipe for yogurt dill dressing.  A friend modified it
    from a lowfat recipe in Gourmet magazine and it's just as good 
    the original. 
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
    3 tablespoons wine vinegar
    1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    9 tablespoons plain non-fat yogurt
    2 teaspoons dill weed
    In a small bowl, mix salt, sugar, pepper and vinegar with a fork or whisk.
    Stir in mustard.  Stir yogurt in a spoonful at a time.  Fold in dill
    weed.
