	Gen,
Have you thought about the possibility of gaining muscle??
Aerobics five times a week is quite a bit of exercise.
It could have shifted things around a little. How are your
clothes fitting? Don't look at the scale for a while and
concentrate on how you're *feeling*. AND DON'T GIVE UP!!
You have the right idea with the water, exercise, and decreased
fats. How's the amount of fruit and veggies compare to the
amount of refined carbos you're eating. Try and get 5 servings
a day of fruit and/or veggies. Think LONG TERM!! You're gonna
start feeling better. That's the first step. Keep up the
routine and the weight *will* come off. Also, how close are
you 'til goal? If you're real close you know it's just gonna
take a while. This notes conference and the PROGRESS conference
are a great means of support for me. Keep in touch!
	Kerry

| | Thanks Kerry....I really don't want to give up.....and I know that I
should stay away from that stupid scale!! I mean, my clothes
definitely fit better than they did a month ago.......

I'm not even close to goal.....I have approx. 45 lbs to lose, so I
figured that it should be coming off quicker than it is.....ya, I guess
there is the possibility that I am gaining some muscle, which is good,
but shouldn't I still be losing fat/weight at the same time???

O.K...that's it!! I'm not going near my scale for at least another
week!! And I'm not giving up either!! I just have to try to be more
patient and realize that this isn't going to happen overnight......

    Thanks again, Kerry......

    Have a good day...

| 594.3 | You win twice with muscle weight... | CLOSUS::TAVARES | John--Stay Low, Keep Moving! | Wed Aug 08 1990 19:16 | 9 |
| | It can be discouraging when you exercise to lose weight and you
wind up gaining. I've also attributed this to muscle weight, and
I find that it takes up to a couple of months to see any real
weight loss...of course, as the body tightens, the clothes fit
better!
Look at it this way, not only are you burning calories
in exercise, but more importantly, the muscle tone you're putting
on will burn more calories by just being there.

| | Ya...you are right about gaining muscle and in turn the muscle burning
fat......so I will try as hard as I can not to get discouraged, and I
will watch my diet very carefully, and I will NOT GIVE UP!! And I will
try as hard as I can to stay away from the stupid scale!!

    thanks!!

| | Also remember to stay at the low end of your target heart zone while doing
aerobic activity or else you are not buring fat, you are buring blood
sugar and working your cardiovascular system. I learned this from someone
in the Aerobics notesfile. Aerobics 5 times a week is what I am striving
for too. Keep up the good work. It will come off...albeit slow..but it
will be for sure!!!!
One sure way to see a change is to take measurement at least twice a month.
This way you will see the inches dropping...Someone once told me that muscle
gain is not really fast especially for women...If there is a difference in
your clothes there is a difference that just isn't showing on the scale yet.

| | Hi Loretta...and thanks...

Y'know, I have a feeling that I may be going way above my target alot
of the time.....I know I should try to keep it low cuz I know I should
to burn fat....the problem is that I always have a hard time finding
my pulse.....even the instructors have a hard time finding it
sometimes...maybe I should get one of those watches that takes your
pulse.....hmmm......that's a thought, then I could really monitor it
perfectly and make sure I'm not too high......

Thanks for the encouragement, and I WON'T GIVE UP!!! I like the words
    to your favorite song!!

    Good luck to you too!

	Gen,
Staying off the scale is a good idea. Doesn't WW not allow
you to weigh yourself at all except at their meetings?
I weigh myself every morning (no clothes on, after the first
	visit to the bathroom).
Even tho I weigh in every day, I only *count* the one on
Monday mornings before I post my weight in the PROGRESS conference.
Sounds weird but I've learned to ignore the weights inbetween
Mondays and use them just for my own information/motivation, etc.
I can flucuate a lot during the week... If I went day to day
rather than Monday to Monday, I'd drive myself nuts!
Also, I picked Monday to do my weigh-in cuz it helps me
do a little better on the weekends where I usually have
	the most trouble.
But until you are disiplined enough to ignore the daily weight
and concentrate on the weekly one, definately stay off of it!

And I had a feeling your clothes were fitting better! Good for
	you!!
