| 233.1 | Keep drinking! | TALLIS::SLEWIS |  | Thu Feb 25 1988 13:38 | 12 |
| | Have you asked you WW leader about why they changed the recommendation?
    It could be that they've discovered that there is no chemical reason
    that lots of water will make you lose weight. But it surely sounds
    like lots of water definitely helped you ( maybe in non-chemical
    ways: keeping you full, delaying the time of a splurge, etc ) lose
    weight so don't stop!!!

    As people around here are fond of saying:

    If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

| | Don't stop drinking the water! Your body likes it; so don't stop.
     The amount of weight you have lost is proof that the combination
    of things you were doing was working; so keep it up!!!!!! I, too,
    have found that water (8-12 glasses a day, for me) speeds up the
    weight loss, so I keep drinking. I agree with -1; if is ain't broke,
    don't fix it! Keep up your efforts and you will be rewarded. Don't
    forget that things work differently on different people. It sounds
    like you have found what works for you, so don't stop now.

| 233.3 | Keep Drinking...WATER...... | CADSE::WILLIAMS |  | Fri Feb 26 1988 10:08 | 17 |
|  |     Two valid points here :

    1. If it isn't broken don't try to fix it...
    2. If it isn't according to specification, then enhance it to fit
    	the specification....

    Sounds good to me....but what about doing what works, or doing the
    right thing...according to whom...

    I would personally stick with the water...if it works for you...
    There is a course I took...I think it was New Age Thinking...

    It said something to about us looking for someone to tell us we
    are now 'certified' to do a task...instead of doing the task with
    our own stamp of approval...

| 233.4 | Hope I find It | RUTLND::COTE |  | Fri Mar 04 1988 09:14 | 17 |
| | I saw some where in the notes file the reason to drink lots of water
    if I can find it I will divert you people to it but the jist of
    it was:

    Your liver is what purifys the water, and also breaks down fats,water
    that sits in your system becomes polluted so your liver must stop
    digesting fats and purify the water, while it is doing this if any
    fats enter the liver they are stored in already existing fat cells.
    Causing a build up of fat, so if you consume lots of water your
    liver never has to take time out to purify the water it always has
    a fresh supply.

    Hope this helps

    Rick

    Now, how can drinking lots of water work against your tendency to
    retain fluids? It's logical. When you don't take in enough
    water, your bogy retains the amount you do take in, just as a
    camel stores water in his hump to enable him to survive long
    journeys across the desert. The bad news is, this old, stored
    water becomes contaminated by waste chemicals from your body.
    Your kidneys can't process this contaminated water the way they
    would process clean, fresh water, so your liver has to detoxify it
    by breaking down the contaminants. That means your liver can't
    perform it's main task, which is to break down fat. Thus, as you
    store water, the fat you eat is stored in your fat cells instead
    of being broken down into its chemical components by your liver.
    You become bloated, water logged and obese.

| 233.6 | Good Health Too | PSG::HOTT |  | Thu Mar 31 1988 21:56 | 6 |
| | Overweight or not, every doctor I have ever visited has told
    me to drink 8 glasses of water per day. It's not just for
    weight loss; it's for good health.
