I believe that Sorbitol is a carbohydrate, essentially equivalent to
    sugar, but metabolized more slowly.

Does it have the same calorie content as sugar?

| Being frank here...it gives me gas, stomach pains, and a bloated
feeling if I have any. That includes gum, cough drops, or any food
made with Sorbitol. My doctor says that is one side effect. He
failed to mention what the others were. :-(

| MY HUSBAND HAS ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT SORBITOL IS USED AS AN INFANT
LAXITIVE WHICH EXPLAINS SOME OF THE GI SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED WHEN
USED IN LOW CALORIE FOODS, ESPECIALLY CANDY. I WOULD STEER CLEAR
    OF IT.
