| Can't help you on the commissioning, but I doubt it's impossible
only difficult.
I am aware of an ANG or AFR unit in Worcester, MA. They run a radar
station near Greenhill Park. There is a Fighter/Interceptor Squadron
at Otis ANGBase on Cape Cod, that provides most of the intercept
capability for the Northeast US. Westover AFB in Chicopee has Active
ANG and AFR units and Barnes airfield in Westfield has ANG. There's
probably more around, if your in the Maynard area (inferred from
your node name), try looking in the Boston phone directories under
Government-US and Mass-State of. If you can't discover a unit there,
try calling an Air Force recruiter or National Guard recruiter. If
helicopters or small fixed wing is your area of interest, there is
an Army Reserve aviation unit at Ft Devens.

| There is no doubt that most of the commissions in the ANG are going to
enlisted personnel alrerady in the Guard. It's a policy of taking care
of your own people. However, there are situations where qualified
people are not currently in the unit and applications are accepted from
civilians. It is not even a requirement to be prior service.
I am in a Combat Comm Squadron and we currently have openings for a
Comm Officer and an Comm Engineer. So it isn't just doctors and
lawyers. BTW, Arkansas is a beautiful place to live.

| Do you folks believe this person? Someone actually wants/is looking
for a Commission! I strongly suggest that Note #24 (I think that's the
one about most hated rank) be mandatory reading for anyone
contemplating such rash action.

| There is an ANG combat communications group and squadron located in
Wellesley, Mass. on Rt. 9 near Rt. 128/95. I don't know about current
open slots. You can contact the recruiter. His name is Msgt Win

| Westover and Hanscom AFBs each have Aerial Port Squadrons. Westover
also has a Comm Sqdn and a couple of maintenance squadrons. Many of
the sqdns at Westover have been activated (at least partially), but all
of the reserves may be activated soon anyway, so it wouldn't matter
which one you join.
