803.0. "DOS does it better????" by TOHOPE::TOHOPE::MALLORY_A () Tue May 13 1997 15:34

    My customer is running 1.0d of PW/NTWR. Using Windows 95 he pulls up
    a file on the VMS NetWare server, he can then pull up multiple copies
    of this file.

    His users get confused and are not sure which copy they need to be
    editing.

    The customer says that in DOS it does not allow him to pull multiple
    copies of files and this helps the users to keep their files straight.

    I explained that when 3.x NetWare was designed it was desirable to have
    a sharing mechinism for individual files but 3.12 takes that a bit
    further and allows you to use windows 95 to remove the sharing via the
    client32 properties option.

    Under NetWare 3.12 he can do a properties on files and change the
    sharing attibute to not sharing, but with pw/ntwr there are no
    properties for NetWare.

    He is running Client32 for NetWare.

    Is there any easy way for him to allow only one copy of the file at a
    time to be opened...

    Andrea
