| 72.1 | It can be expensive | SCAACT::COX | Kristen Cox - Dallas ACT Sys Mgr | Thu Jul 05 1990 15:12 | 12 |
| | My daycare alone costs close to $500 per month, and if you live in or near
Mass. you can double that. Pampers cost about $10-$12 per week, and I
hear formula is expensive (I breast-fed mine so I don't know). Then the
gadgets they need can be expensive too.
That still does not justify what she is doing, but I'm afraid if he *wants*
to pay it (for whatever reason) there is not much you can do. I would hope
he gets things more formalized than the notorized piece of paper because that
doesn't sound like it gives him any RIGHTS, just RESPONSIBILITY.
Just my $.02

| 72.2 | That is low! | MCIS2::WALTON |  | Fri Jul 06 1990 08:18 | 14 |
| | Well, if you all are here in MASS, I would suggest you look very
    carefully at what you are doing. Here, the courts pretty much figure
    on about x% (some of the other notes here will know how much). But
    the payments you are making are only 50.00 per week. I don't know
    anyone who is paying that little for support.

    And daycare should be interesting. Here in Mass infants (under 2.9
    years) costs range from 125.00 - 235.00. That is per week! Sometimes
    you can get lower rates from in home providers, but it's not lower by
    much.

    Good luck!

| 72.3 | Feel lucky it is only $200/month not $200/week | WILLEE::SKOWRONEK |  | Fri Jul 06 1990 11:19 | 28 |

    I agree with the last two replys ---- $200/month is dirt cheap for
    child support. The last reply (.2) was right on the nose with daycare
    costs. It get less expensive as the child gets older, my daughter
    is 4 years old and it costs me $100/week -- and that is LOW!!

    If your fiance feels like he is paying too much, he should go to
    court, but if I were him I wouldn't --- the judge would probably
    make him pay more.

    The courts go by a basic formula and it all depends on the number
    of children involved, the non-custodial parents gross weekly income,
    and they do take into consideration SOME of the custodial parents
    income. You can call any court and they will send you the worksheet,
    it is really easy to figure out.

    One suggestion, you should feel lucky that you have a fiance that
    is being financially responsible for his child --- questionable
    or not. (IF it were not his child, all he needs to do is get a blood
    test done to prove it ---it is pretty simple.) Just put yourself
    in this childs mothers place --- wouldn't you want some sort of
    child support???? Take it from a single mother who went without
    child support for close to 4 years, it costs alot of money to raise
    a child today, it is very hard to do alone.

    Good luck

| | I have to agree with the rest of the replies here... $200.00 per
    month *is* dirt cheap. My husband would be dancing in the streets
    if that is all it cost him for his 9 year old son. And keep in mind,
    that children generate less bills the *older* they get. We have an
    almost 9-month-old daughter and I figure I spend about $200.00 per
    *week* on her - not per month.

    I agree that $200 monthly sounds like a good deal for him,
    but all things are relative. It all depends on how much he
    makes. I pay more than that per week so I would love it,
    but if I were making half of what I make now, I would be in
    big trouble trying to pay $200 a month.
