When I got "snipped, Mel (my MUCH better half) had to sign.
But when she got tied (because of other complications) noone gave a
shit what I thought.

i was 40 plus. already had SIX children. but, when i asked the Dr. to
break me (snip, snip)... i had to get her PERMISSION! jeez, that
really pissed me off!

I don't know about today, but prior to our divorce, my ex decided
to have her tubes tied. The Doctor made her bring a consent form
to me for signing. They would not do the operation unless I agreed.
I was both surprised, as well as satisfied that at least in this
one area, perhaps Massachusetts does the right thing.

| Here's another piece of trivia that I found out while going to school.
When applying for student aid, if you receive child support, then that
is figured into your total income when determining need. If you are
paying child support, however, there isn't even a place of the form
for it.

| Don't know about the form you saw, Fred, but even if the one I
completed didn't have a place for child support paid (though I believe
it did), I certainly entered that information in the "comments" section
where you're invited to share any financial factors not covered by the
fill-in-the-blanks portion of the form.
I _do_ know for a fact that the child support I pay was factored into
the assessment made upon both parents - his assessment was more than
mine by EXACTLY the amount of child support I provide for my daughter.

My info may be a little outdated, but when I went back to college
about eight years ago, I noticed on the form that there was a place
for *receiving* child support, but no place if you were paying.
I asked the Financial office about this and they told me that
child support payments were *not* considered when figuring expenses
for need.
One of the main reasons for me deciding to go back to college was
that I was living in an area with 21% unemployment at the time.
When I got my financial package, I hadd about $250/mo. to live on.
$150 went to a dump apartment that I was living in, and along
came DSS and hit me for $80 per month child support payments
(plus having to pay for my lawyer while hers was free). That left
me with $20 per month to live on. I decided to go apply for food
stamps. Guess what?? Child support is considered as income when
receiving food stamps, but is not considered an expense if you are
paying child support. I 'qualified' for about $10 per month in
food stamps. (Can you say lean times).
