| I'd suggest you go for a darker color, and avoid a neutral tone such as
grey. Something in a rich blue would probably look good on him, and
highlight his eyes. A lighter color would make him appear heavier than
he is, and a gray would make him look colorless.
Avoid bold patterns (big stripes, etc.). A heather-type sweater may be
good - Land's End has many kinds of attractive sweaters at reasonable
prices. I think the Izod sweaters are too expensive for the quality.

| To the author....
I'm 6'1" and at 220 I had a "paunch". If the fellow is a bit large
around the mid-riff, I'd suggest an Extra-Large.

Going with grey, try a charcoal color, not a light
grey......in fact, stick with the darker colors
anyway...black might be too harsh, but you might try greys,
blues, greens, etc....nothing bright, try muted colors.
Heathers are great, so are argyles (sp?) but not a blatant
design......(no really sharp contrasts in colors)...Soft
muted designs are great because they are tasteful, yet
subtle.
Avoid horizontal lines (in fact, avoid blatent one-way
designs at all)...they make anyone look heavier.
Avoid flat, one-color sweaters, but avoid busy sweaters too.
I'll second Land's End..they have some great clothes (one of
my favorite mail order catalogs) and their quality is
unsurpassed.....they are prompt and they also will accept
returns and credits.

Depends on how good a friend we're talking about here. If he's a
*real* good friend, nothing beats cashmere. A burgundy, charcoal, or
navy cashmere sweater is appropriate for all but the most formal
circumstances, is extremely warm, very cuddly, and costs about a
billion dollars (0,-).

| I got the Land's End catalog. I also looked through the L.L. Bean
catalog but wasn't happy with their choices.
I like the looks of the Lambswool sweater. The Charcoal gray looks
nice and I really like the Burgundy. Either one appropriate for
the office?
I guess the next question is style: pullover or the V-Neck button
style?
The cashmere is too expensive.

| I agree that a pullover is nicer looking than a cardigan with buttons.
As for "appropriate to the office" - I suppose it all depends on the
office! I can't imagine any of your choices being "wrong" unless
all the men have to wear jackets and ties.

| The sweater was received with many thanks.
He has accepted a position at another company and will be
leaving shortly. I love him dearly but I have no idea what to give
him for a present. I have given him tie tacks, a sweater, candy,
he has 2 briefcases and a nice organizer.
HELP, Please... I need ideas...

What is the extent of the relationship? Will it end after he accepts
the other position? continue at a reduced level?
These things could affect the kind of gift you could give.
If he wears jewellry, a bracelet suitably engraved might be nice.
A nice picture frame (with a portrait of you of course) might be
appropriate.
See, it's hard to suggest without knowing the relationship level.
Can you be a little more open?

The relationship is one of close friends. I suspect the contact
will lessen with time. The picture frame is a nice idea.
