| | My wife and I went up to Boothbay Harbor in Maine last year. It's very
nice up there (it helps if you like the ocean). We stayed at a bed and
breakfast. No phones, no TV- just you and your SO.

| | Most Marriots have a weekend getaway package night and breakfast
for two for $x ( depending on location ).

My wife and I found the rate excellent for a Reservist's weekend
and anniversary at the Denver downtown which is on the Larimer
    Street Mall. Interesting area.

Most chains offer similar packages due to low weekend occupancy.

    Take you pick of location.

| | I've never been, but have always wanted to be "whisked" away to
Nantuckett Island! There are a few small inns and B&B's. Also, many
cottages but I think those rent by the week.

| | re .-1	There is a booklet listing inns, hotels and cottages
which can be had by writing to or calling the Nantucket Chamber
of Commerce (sorry, I have neither the address nor the phone # with
me). It is a very helpful guide to selecting places to stay, eat,
    see and shop.

Using this guide my fiance and I selected The Corner House to spend
a lovely weekend last summer. (again, I apologize for not having
    an address or phone#)

Nantucket is indeed a very romantic sanctuary for a respite. Don't
miss the sunset from Madaket Beach!

| | Any suggestions for West Coast Romantics? Same requirements as .0
(secluded, scenic, romantic). I'd like to take my wife away for
an extended weekend within California, somewhere other than San
Francisco or Los Angeles (city. Surrounding areas acceptable.)

The Carmel, Monterey or Santa Barbara coastal areas quickly
comes to mind. My wife and I spent our honeymoon out there in '82
    and it was gorgeous.

| | Thanks for the tip. I've been to Carmel and Monterey and they are
undeniably beautiful. Never been to Santa Barbara, though. I'll
    check it out.

| | You have so many opportunities for romantic get-aways in the
    San Francisco area.

Try to get a room at the Ahwanee in Yosemite.

The Mendicino area (about 3 to 4 hours away) is gorgeous.

The gold country has some excellent bed and breakfast places.

The Santa Cruz area is less than an hour away from your node and
there are some excellent romantic places in that area.

Sacramento may get a lot of bad press, but there are some nice places
to visit there. I wouldn't suggest it until September or October
if you don't like hot weather.

How about a trip to Hearst Castle?

In addition to Napa Valley try Sonoma County wine areas, especially
    the Russian River area.

Also look (and post an appropriate note if you don't find one) in
    THEBAY::SAN_FRANCISCO for more suggestions.
